Anyone know how to put together a structure to do dips on? I work out at home during vacations from school and I don't currently have anywhere to do dips. Pushups are no longer helping me progress in chest/tricep development (I'm after mainly size atm) and I don't have a bench or rack. My budget is unlimited but if I could make something for 50 bucks or less it would be superb. Also before a smartypants tells me that dips aren't going to be much harder than pushups, I've got a chain and some plates to use for weighted ones.

edit: for 50 bucks no less... don't try to put your own dip rack together... you'll end up dying...

What crawled into your pants tonight, Jared?

I'm confident that building something can be both cheaper and faster than waiting for that piece of junk to get here in the mail. All I'm looking for are some ideas that you guys might have, considering I have nothing better to do right now.

build that thing I linked you to... or you could just stab a few poles into a large tree and use that, or you can use free weights to build your triceps...

I think I'll go to Home Depot tomorrow and see what I can do with some PVC piping. I'll also try doing pushups with some plates piled onto my back. Kickbacks and stuff could work, but right now I'm focusing on mostly compound movements. If I can find a bench I'll attempt some skullcrushers.

You could probably pick up something like that for fairly cheap. Or use that as an idea if you do plan to build one.

Just buy crack for the $50 and sell it on the street for more money. You could earn atleast $25 bucks if you know the game, then you invest your $75 in more crack and make a profit of say $40(you earned some trading skills aswell), then you have like $115 you can now buy a decent dip-rack or invest in more crack, and make even more profits. You can get anything you want this way!

I use a cement wall outside of my house and a step ladder.

If you have 2 sturdy chairs, stand in the middle with the backs of the chairs either side of you.

Can you say slip?

Thanks for that image, compleks. I think I might try to make something akin to that.

Chairs would slip on the concrete floor, but if I'm able to get them secure enough so that they don't move around, that might be able to suffice for my next few workouts.

Karl, my budget is unlimited, 50 dollars is merely a goal.

There's quite a large amount of home-made gym equipment info around, google "home made dip stands" or "DIY dip stands" or something.

nah, i ve done dips between chairs for ages, ive even done them with 30 kgs extra weight, u just learn to control it and in no time its the same. i had a friend used to do dips on crutches, that however is a lot harder.
i suggest u try the chairs before u buy anything

Yes. Can you read "sturdy"?

Assuming the original poster isn't the size of Ronnie Coleman, and uses common sense with which chairs/surface to use, it will work.
