View Full Version : Foampit
Has anyone tried to build their own foampit?
They don't have a foampit where I live.
So me and some friends thought of the idea of building our own.
Doesn't have to be that big really.
Is it very expensive?
Edit:
Look at this place: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VKmrk00fgEY
You could have had some much fun there!

Hahaha yeah, that place looks awesome to goof around in.
Errr, I wouldn't bother wasting my time on making a foam pit myself. Too much of a hassle, I'd rather man up and toss my tricks on a floor if I didn't have acces to one.

Yeah I wouldn't bother with a foam pit at all. I don't see what you'd be able to gain from it, besides a bit of entertainment.

HERESY
the foam pit is a magical place, and without it I wouldn't have many tricks. Now kindly sit still while I tie you to this stake.

How would you build it? And where? Im guessing:
1) dig an appropriately-sized hole in your garden.
COST = £0 assuming you do have digging equipment and somewhere to lob the soil
LABOUR = very high without hiring machinery. Get about 4 of you to help dig.
2) Line the Hole with a suitable waterproof lining. Tiles would be good, like a swimming pool. Bricks or concrete would also keep the hole waterproof. Otherwise you could just use groundsheets or similar, but it might not stay as dry that way.
COST = £20 or so for enough groundsheets, £100 minimum for proper building materials.
LABOUR = depends on the material used. Less than for part 1.
3) (OPTIONAL) Fill the bottom of the hole with something sturdy but soft like matresses, as a safety feature. You wouldnt want to risk hitting your head. Of course you wouldnt want to BUY matresses for this but if you could scrounge some it would be good. Can anyone think of anything else to form a base?
COST = for matresses etc £0 or small. assuming you wouldnt be willing to buy these. £50 maximum maybe for something like sun lounger mats
LABOUR = low.
4) Fill up with foam
COST = No idea but it cant be much. i suggest £50 maximum.
LABOUR = low
5) Construct a cover so the foam doesnt get trashed by the rain. Groundsheets can be used. They use them on long jump pits and high jump mats etc after all.
COST = £20 max maybe
LABOUR = if groundsheets used, minimal.
6) Test it out.
COST: £0
LABOUR: intense haha
7) Rent it out
COST: negetive!
TOTAL COST: probably around £300 but varies depending on how properly you make it. And how big and how safe and how deep. You could make a crappy one for under £100 im sure.
Do not build a foam pit. It will KILL your training.

I always did my stuff off the bleachers onto the HIgh jump mats or the pole voult mats for shits and giggles which was always fun.

Silence n00b!
And Domenow, there are no bad spots...it's foam blocks in a pit, like balls in a ball pit. It's not like there's just one layer.
Foam crocodiles are an ever-present threat though.

Use leaves. Works best in fall time. Go figure.
