I've been trying for over a year to get a propper aerial but I can't cause I'm shit. I can get trickster aerials (glorified b-kick) and was wonderin what the general opinion of this move is.
Personally I don't like it cause I think it looks kinda easy (and also cause my friend has amazing gymnast aerials). But I can do them and combo them.
The question I put to you is, Are trickster aerials respectably? and can they be counted as trick learded or should I push the gymnast aerials.
Thanks
Go ahead and work the gymnast aerials. They're going to help you alot down the road. Not to downplay trickster aerials, because you can do certain things with them that you cant with gymnast aerials.

but like you can't reverse, axe aerial or aerial twist (or can you? I don't know)

Push the gymnast ones. They help lots with other stuff to. Trickster aerials are almost invariable and they're just not as pretty. :good:
And really, there's nothing you can do with a trickster aerial that you can't do with a gymnast one. Try me.

Nope, you can't.

i feel as long as people dont flaunt their trickster aerial as a real one, i'm fine with seing them. Also i feel that gymnast aerials are alot more fun to do once you have them comfortably. good luck.

In my opinion, trickster aerials should only be used to link moves or something, never as a single move because it doesn't look impressive. Gymnastic aerials look so awesome on the other hand, and they are the prereq for brandy, aerial switch, axe2aerial, aerial twist, etc

See the thing is side 2 side aerials aren't always trickster aerials.

Gymnast aerials are more practical, and look nicer in my opinion.
However, my opinion doesn't matter. Do what makes you happy, that's what it comes down to in tricking.

when it comes to trickster aerials, byt themselves they are not great, if your just going to do a single aerial or start a combo off with one a gymnast is definately the way to go, however i feel it is important to learn both because when it comes to combo's trickster ones become alot easier to execute mid combo compared to gymnast aerials

Are trickster aerials respectably?
When they look nice
Never hurts to learn both

They aren't proper aerials, but they're useful for that one thing: combos.
I think anybody interested in learning an aerial (which I think should be EVERY trickster since it's such a common basic) should learn a proper one. Though it's a big argument and such a seperation of terms ("trickster" and "gymnast" style) is stupid, a "gymnast" aerial is something you should learn. It only makes any other "kind" of aerial or variation that much easier. "Trickster" aerials when done alone are never as attractive as a proper aerial (with very fex exceptions).
Basically: LEARN A PROPER ONE and a crappier "trickster" version comes naturally.
Don't settle for crap. That's what a lot of people like to do. They just want the next move and don't give a rat's ass whether the stuff they have actually looks any good. QUALITY ABOVE QUANTITY.
It's been mentioned that you should do only what you want though, what makes you happy, which is true. However I know few that prefer doing a "trickster" aerial to a "gymnast aerial" They're more fun, more impressive, and all around just that much better. I could do shitty "trickster" aerials forever but I never counted it as me learning an aerial. When I finally learned a real one, then I did.
P.S. I've been messing on and off with tricking for 5 years. I didn't learn a gymnast aerial until this year haha. Don't feel bad. It doesn't come as naturally for some as others.

Ahaha.
Dude why does everyone say trickster aerials are good for combos. Good aerials are much easier in combos lol dang.

I think it really depends on the combo Skillzat, I think people should try to use a proper aerial as much as possible but depending on angles and amount of rotation it can be tricky, no pun intended. Proper aerials own tricksters aerials either way though.

I think it's always easier to pull of than a tricker aerial. All you do is point your foot in the direction you're going and bam aerial from all angles haha.
When I think of trickster aerial, I literally think of b-kicks where the head doesn't come back up. Not just sideways aerials or ones that arent totally inverted.

Well I pretty much agree with you mostly. It's basically my lack of aerial combo experience (with both kinds) that's preventing me from making a decent argument with you, haha. So I'm saying no more about all this.

I think tricker aerials do deserve a certain amount of respect, not as much as gymnast aerials, and only if they're properly inverted. Tricker aerials that aren't inverted very well don't look really...well...nice at all.
I find a big difference between proper B kicks and tricker aerials though
Only since watching Usernames B kick thingy :P

Could you post a video of your gymnast aerials so we could figure out what's wrong? ... or more like pre-gymnast aerials, as you cant land them, but ha, yeh... ?

trickster aerials are handy kuz theyre something you kan just whip out whenever you want and as mentioned before theyre ridiculously handy in combo's, but gymnast ones just have a whole load more style and definitely look better!
and you almost have the gymnast aerial padwan so just keep going for it, it doesnt hurt to have both!

learn them both. gymnasts because they are prettier, and 'trickster' aerials because they are easier to combo. btw properly inverted 'trickster' aerials are actually harder than gymnast aerials imo

Yeah if you do the trickster aerial after a hook etc, its so much harder to invert them that a trickster aerial!

Hmmm....an endless debate.
I say learn what feels comfortable and looks good. A good idea is to experiment with both as they both have their uses.

You fools!
There is NO use for a trickster aerial. There is no possible situation in which you could use one and not have used a gymnast one more efficiently.
Ok, just for clarification, this is NOT a trickster aerial:

I mean look at this video. The guy says he's doing both types of aerials but he's only doing gymnast ones haha:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEzB_arYSOk
Side to side aerials are NOT always trickster aerials! They can quite easily be gymnast aerials.
HERE is a trickster aerial (if he would have landed it).

EDIT: Alright both the trickster aerial example videos have been taking down. New meat:

Do you know why? Because they're just b-kicks with the head down. Look at the movement of the upper body and back leg. The leg comes up to the side and front instead of straight down, and they swing their heads towards the back instead of forward or just down. That makes them inverted b-kicks and not aerials.
If you notice the examples I gave of aerials that are relatively "gymnastic" aerials, the leg is clearly swung up back behidnd the body and the legs travel over head.
That's basically the difference between the tricker aerial and the gymnast one: in one the leg is swung up back, and in one it is pushed up towards ones front.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/Skilzat99X/aerialdiff.jpg
THAT is the difference between gymnast aerials and tricker aerials.
And that is also why trickster aerials in fact ARE inverted b-kicks, and gymnast aerials are not.
Debate...OVER!

I used to do "trickster Aerials" (thought I don't like the term, since it is kinda devaluating) and it was fucking hard to learn the "gymnast" one. It took ages till I figured out how to turn my body.
But in the two weeks after I hab learned the proper one, I nailed Brandys, A-Twists, Websters and Axe2Aerials.
So my conclusion is
"Go learn the gymnast one"
I do the trixter setup but I don't (think anyway) setup to the side.
I'm in work today and tomorrow but i'll post a vid soon, maybe i'll do one now....?
