Hey guys!

I have this little "problem". I have known backflip since october last year, but in periods I have it and periods I fear it! So I would like to hear your experience with it, what do you do? Do you practise other moves and just let it go, instead of fighting the fear? Yeah let me hear some stories about backflip!

Regards Shaolin:smile:

I randomly get scared of doing them on ground and will wait till the next day before I do them on grass again.
I think it's mainly down to feeling fatigued (my back flips are fine)

When I see someone say 'my Random Trick is fine"... fine? What is 'fine'? Is fine 'good enough', 'no need to make it better'-fine? Or is it 'not good enough'?

After I learned my backflip, I was scared of it in perioids. This changed when I got the proper tucking / spinning technique down and I started landing them with my body straight and falling over rarely if ever. Then I took them to hard surfaces like wooden floors and such, and it hasn't been a problem for me since.

Just drill it 'till you know you can land it consistently without any mishap, ie. loosing balance when landing etc. No other cures for it. Oh, and it should feel pretty uh... relaxed?

Personally, I fight the fear with tricks in general. Works for me and means that I don't have to be patient and wait for the fear to go away in time.

Personally I've never lost the backflip, and I got the technique down pretty well so I never fear it anymore. It's my warm up trick anyway, it's like this portal to another dimension that brings me into the tricking universe (session starts ftw).

On the other hand, I have a buddy who's still deathly afraid of the backflip. He's known for tricking as long as me, he actually got me into it 3 years ago - and he's been able to backflip since 2 years.... with a spotter next to him. And that spotter doesn't even need to do anything, he can backflip perfectly fine - he just needs to stand next to him to give him the comforting though of safety. It's just that his mind shuts down everytime the spotter (mostly me) takes a step back and he's gotta do it 'by himself'.

It's annoying haha, we always try to encourage him to backflip but he just won't do it without anyone next to him. I'm sure he'll get the hang of it in the near future though...

The definition of fine is basically satisfactory.
So yes, my backflip is good enough. There isn't a need to make it better, however it _could_ be made better.

I can upload a clip of it sometime today if you'd like.

I think it's a combination of feeling slightly fatigued and stretched/torn muscles from the night before.
Having people around when I'm doing it usually eliminates the problem, maybe pressure to land it kicks in so I don't really think about it.

yeah! it's the same for me:smile: i've started tricking this summer and i'm not very sure about my backtucks. I usually land 50 % without hurting my ankle or falling backwards but if someone's watching I always land them:smile: great for me!

I'd prefer this thread if it had less Aahem.

Anyway, with me.. i started off EXTREMELY scared. Then I got spotted. Then I didnt try any for a month or so. Then one day I tried them into a sandpit. I landed like 4 out of 5. Then at lunch I tried them on grass for some reason... and on my 2nd go I landed it.

Then I watched a video of it and it was really low and shitty.

Then I didnt do them anymore.

Now my goal for the holidays is to re-learn them and not care if they are shit and to keep working them.

And that's my backtuck story in brief :good: :)

Shaolin, I know what you mean. Even though the backflip was the first thing I learned, from time to time I just can't seem to throw them. Don't worry, it happens to some. What I do is just leave it for the day and keep going with something else. At times, I've tried fighting it and just either end up messing up my technique because I force it or I injure myself. Besides, you don't NEED a backtuck to trick in general, so you can find ways around that.
