Stop using mats for stuff like one handed cartwheels. Read the tutorial on the main site.

first of all you don't need mats to try an aerial......you can try it on grass.
and the most important thing: you must use your arms in an aerial. from what I can see you are just keeping them close to your chest and this is useless if you want to get momentum....you don't have to think to the aerial as a cartwheel where you must keep your hands from the ground and hope you'll land it in some way....the aerial is pure momentum..but you must create teh momentum you need. so, there are lot's of arm motions you can use to get momentum and I suggest you to start with the one in juji's tut ( check it) and then try other types....it's also usefull to practice 1 handed cartwheels from a running start trying to put into them the aerial's technique in juji's tut...just think that when i aerial I simply do a running 1 handed cart but i put into it power and technique and my hand miss the ground my itself.
but yeah my tip is to stop trying it on mats and read carefully juji's tut and apply the arm motion he explains...then you can try other arm motions if you need....hope i helped... GOOD LUCK!!

hallo
first of all, a mat like that won't get you anywhere, you're forcing yourself to land on something higher than the ground you're on. if you are worried about hurting yourself practice on grass or moss
second, you are going into the move with way too much speed. this throws your momentum all forward and very little goes up. aerials rely on height, the speed comes from your leg swinging up. focus on jumping off that take-off leg some more, and really lift that back leg up HARD.
third, the key to land aerials for me was to really drive that leg back underneath you once you're upside down. aerials aren't a move you can just 'fall' out of.
good luck

i agree with what everybody said, special emphasis on the arms thing... you've got to use them in one way or another... there are many different ways of using them in an aerial, just find one you like and are comfortable with.
and about the mats-i don't think a lot of people can land an aerial on a mat that high... i suggest you take one mat with you to a local park, or open grass area, then you won't get hurt, and still have reasonable space to land the aerial...

when you take off keep your knee behind your ankle.
