Bout to go try my first backflip, i'm well prepared and up for it. Although im shit scared mainly because if i land on my neck...thats me gone. But its just first time nerves, people say not to be scared but shit...i cant help it, once i try it for the first time it will be ok. Anyone else had similar expierences? and prevailed?

You can't not be scared tbh.. I was scared doing my first one, and occasionally I'm still scared to try it on my own. However you just got to fight the fear, and realize that you'll never progress if you don't try anything.
Also, you should make sure you try the proper (most effective) technique.
If you do this, nothing will go wrong, the worst you'll do is land on your knees and that doesn't exactly hurt.
Hope you get it!

Use 2 spotters!
When I used one, I was fucking scared.
But with two, I just went for it.
Now I have to do it on my own.

Ofcourse it's scary to do a backflip. It's fine, I was scared my first time.

For ME, what worked to get over the fear was to throw a really bad almost bhs-ish backflip where I flipped over the side. It was terrible, low, bad techniqued... but it got me over the immediate fear of being upside down. Then, I just tried a regular backflip after that and it was much easier on me. Then again, that worked for ME, so just try what works for you. Good luck chap!

Yeah, I was messing around with standing pop-swipes, and I just decided to go for it. I knew that I'd get it first try, but that fear kinda held me back until I got some balls.

i was uber scared on my first one! in the end i was getting so tired of not being able to do it i just went for it and it was fine even though i didnt land right.

if you are truly scared i think you should get two spotters or or try it on some mats. but otherwise just cain it and go for it.

as soon as you do one your not scared anymore(as long as you dont land on your head)

That worked with me also. (for all flips that I can do)

Tbh its easy talking bout it. This post is after i went outside to try it, i most i did was practise the set-ups, my best friend spotted for me and i flipped and landed on my back, didnt hurt one bit its just getting the momentum to get round. Jesus its harder than the youtube vids lol.

But yeah im never gonna get it on my first go right? as long as i keep it up and practise the sets ill get it.

You guys recoomend jumping off something? or is that a big no no?

Btw tyvm for the fast replies :)

Edit: And to answer your question... this is my first ever trick EVER.

Wait 2 big problems..
1) You shouldn't be trying to gain momentum (it should just happen) - as you jump up you're already leaning back to tuck over, if you pause the set of one like Dovicka's you'll see they're back is straight and they're slightly leaned back.
2) If you're being spotted why did you land on your back o.O I have a suspicion that the guy spotting you doesn't know how to spot, because you _will_ flip no matter what, if the spotter was doing his job properly.

I did my first one off of a car tire on it's side, it wasn't necessary but it gave me a little bit of assurance. As soon as I did it off the tire I went straight to ground and it was fine. (and never did it off it again)
It's ok if you do it like that, but you don't want to get used to the extra height basically.

In my opinion, it's never a good idea to do anything off heights, it just raises your chances of hurting yourself, more stress on your joints, and it may mess up your technique cuz you get lazy..

But learning the move off a height isn't a good idea at all, it won't teach proper technique and will set bad habits, it should be your last resort or something.

Right okay I understand. I think it would be a good idea to get 2 spotters just to get the feel for it. Then slowly they can help less and less. But as I say, never gonna get it on my first time.

Also could someone post any helpful vids on backflipping?
Highly apreciated.

Jump UP!! Toss those hands up like you mean it! Bring that hip and those legs up, tuck like an insane person! RAWR!!

If you do this, the spotter cannot fail if he has decent motor functions and intact limbs.

One last thing... How long it take for you guys to first get the the backflip? Just so I can compare to myself.

OK, a reply from my side :)

First of all, I had some background on backflips from before I started tricking, as we were doing many flips when swimming in our local river(though, it is true, that tehnique in backflips from height is different, but it helped as I didn't had no fear when trying normal btucks), so I can say I learned them kinda quick.
And besides, it doesn't even matter, some can pull them out really quick and for some it takes quite some time. Faith and devotion, and you'll get them, sooner or later.

As for the clips, this is one of my backflips, also in slow-mo...maybe you'll get something out of it ;) (Second try is a Flash Kick, nevermind that;)

ah my first backflip attempt. i crouched. tongue on the side of my lips. jumped. SWUNG those arms and landed clean on my head. luckily i was smart enough to try it on soil and my head sunk in and popped out under my body weight. theyre still a pain in the ass.

the more u do it, the easier it becomes of course.. so keep practicing. u'll get it eventually..

o and one more thing a backflip should feel like you're rotating over ur head and shoulders..so tuck those arms in tight with the legs too.. jump up, use those arms to get your lean.. good luck
