I have a program called total video converter that can convert .flv into mpeg, avi, mpeg-4 and more at great quality. Just go to video.qooqle.jp/dl/ then download what ever you want from youtube. Once downloaded rename get_video into get_video.flv then use total video converter. Other sites jack up the res. and the same things goes with the youtube downloader program. :smile:

youtube video quality is poor as hell quality, if you convert to another format you lose even more definition. Also "jacking up" (ie resizing the video clip) doesn't make the video higher quality. Basically youtube is good for streaming and nothing else.

Reim said stop because your original comment suggested that you were going to make further comments towards downloading youtube videos; he didn't want this because everyone knows downloading a youtube video is poor quality and is no way near as good as having a nice 640x480 xvid vid.

edit: I'm not intending to sound patronising, that is just the way it is.

Alpha is right, it doesn't download the original file, it downloads the crappified file.
In turn converting that file again is crappy and should only be used in relatively extreme measures.

youtube uses a coded swf that links to an flv file, the swf basicaly acts as a media player that plays the flv from wherever it is stored. When you download the flv you are downloading exactly what gets played through your browser via the youtube flash player. The flv is the exact same quality as what you see on youtube.

when you compress a video (or convert) video information is lost when encoding. flv files are encoded video (they lost information to be a smaller file size; hence the bad quality), if you encode them again (into avi, mpeg or whatever) then you lose even more video information (the quality gets worse).

Now THIS is good quality:

you will need the XVID codec (http://www.extremetricking.com/teamimmortal/XviD-1.1.2-01112006.exe) installed to play it (and a reasonably high spec pc)

compare a youtube videos quality to that beast.

Actually you're COMPLETELY wrong. There is no way to download a Youtube vid with equal quality to the original. Even if there is/was it involves a ridiculous amount of steps making it inconvinient.

what are you on about? both videos you have posted in yot 'test' have been on youtube. This means youtube will have compressed them both with the same method.

No.

Only maybe by advertising and afflitiate programs, which will taint the high quality, pure spirit of this website.

There are people here who are hosting videos for juji, i just can't remember the link at this point in time. The strong support of this community keeps the videos alive, they just may not be immediately apparent to the new user.

This seems like the most convenient option for now

If you hate youtube because of the low quality why not try veoh, sevenload, or stage six?

I know stage six depends on the divx web player which many people dont have, but it allows huge quallity (1080i HD).

But veoh and sevenload offer relatively high bit rates, without needing extra software, and sevenload's embedded video GUI is the best IMO...

I just remebered that My website has about 98mb for him to use if possible. Since I put all of my stuff though youtube and emmbed it into the site this gives me more space. If he needs to make more vids for some reason then he can use my site. :smile:

This is a good idea I hadn't considered. I'm set in my ways and stopped thinking about better solutions to my bandwidth problem. I'm moving to a new hosting service by September and will have a drastically reduced traffic allowance. I will need to rely 100% on other people's servers to host videos. It can be done though.

I will likely embed the narrated examplers into the tutorials themselves with youtube and still provide a download link for anyone who wants the videos on their pc. That alone should save a lot of bandwidth.

Other than that, many people have graciously provided me with space on their servers to upload videos. I can spread it very evenly thanks to many people.
