View Full Version : Just Realised...
I'm never going to be able to do a backtuck.
I've stuided the technique over and over, read too many topics on overcoming the fear. But I just...can't...do it. I find it so hard to get my body horizontal and then to grab my knees. I watch tutorials and they grab their legs when they are horizontal but i just can't.
I don't have a spotter and cannot find one, but I didn't think it would help anyways. I cannot do a front flip unless off a higher platform but that doesn't help my technique at all.
I mean, I havn't been practicing much but I just feel I will never get it...No matter how long I practice.

I was bothered with the move constantly for a year. Either go die or land it.

With backtucks, I left them, because I found them useless, I always just flicked myself over and landed on my knees and face kinda thing. Then one day I had no emotions or thoughts in my head, and tried one, and landed alot better. I then tried for like two weeks to get back tucks, I then fucked them off because I didn't like flips. I wish I didn't leave them though, another 2 weeks and I wouldda had them down easily.

It is once you get it, because u realise it was just fear.
If you believe you can't then you cant, and untill you believe you can, u'll never get it!
So either quit tricking now, or grow some balls!

also when you learn backtucks you are using a lot of muscles in a way that you have never used them before. If you drill backfucks these muscles strengthen and your backflip becomes easier.
also a spotter is essential, just get a parent or a friend to do it, spotting really isn't hard.
You're having an emotional day and you have not practiced it for long.
If there was one thing I learned in the army it was that drilling (constant practice of the same thing) breeds good results.
Don't worry about it boyo, come back in a few days with more motivation and never give up, what does not kill you only makes you stronger (clichè...).

That's not a good thing to say, of course you're not going to get it if you're thinking like that...

I don't know what tutorial you watched but who's ever it was is pretty stupid.
Tucking when you get to horizontal position..? no you tuck when you're at the peak of your jump slightly leaned back at an angle like: /
(That's if you were facing in this: <- direction)
I don't have a spotter and cannot find one, but I didn't think it would help anyways. I cannot do a front flip unless off a higher platform but that doesn't help my technique at all.
You don't have a spotter? So you don't have someone that is strong enough to hold your body weight?
And it would help you, tremendously, since you do the flip whether you've decided you're not going to commit half way through or not.
Have you tried a frontflip not off a platform, using proper technique?
I mean, I havn't been practicing much but I just feel I will never get it...No matter how long I practice.
Everyone felt like that at some point. It's taken people years to do it, you've been trying it for about what? a week? a month?
The method I used to learn a backflip (and frontflip for this matter) was to deliberately not land it. So I'd just jump low and backwards on to my hands and knees, that made it a lot easier and I just learned it, however I first learned the whip technique, this is far less scary for the brain and I'd suggest you learn this method first, then change to the better technique a week or two later like I did.
You know what... I will get it. Whether it will takes years I dont care, I will keep practicing. Not gonna practice straight away, gonna leave it for a couple of days and find myself a spotter. Thanks for inspiration. :)

you say years, as long as you become aware that if you aren't landing it then you must be doing something wrong then you should be landing it in a few weeks.

Well good job genius. You've already failed, because guess what? The backflip is all mental. It's one of the physically easiest things to do but mentally the toughest at first. Fear is getting in the way and you should know better by now. Everybody else in the world can learn it just about. I mean you see people big and small, young and old landing this move everyday. You're no different. Stop being a wuss because the backflip is NOT your enemy right now. YOU are. Get your damn act together and learn it one way or another.
EDIT: Well apparently you found inspiration, but in case that fails again for some reason, read my post again, haha

Don a cape.
It helps.
If that doesn't work I suggest the more effective but less fun alternative of getting a spotter and getting over it
