Hey, I'm 16 and I just started learning how to trick about 2 weeks ago. I just wanted to know how you guys got over the fear factor. It's the only thing stopping me from pulling off the aerial and with the backflip I can't even get my legs over my head cuz I'm so afraid. I jus end up on my side.

with aerial you just need to not use your hands at all and bail several times to realise you shouldnt be scared because you arent going to hurt yourself.

as for backflip you should get a spotter, easiest way.

Get a spotter! Or even better, Get TWO spotters.

well, i think spotters definitely help, but the thing that helps me the most is understanding the technique of the move i'm about attempt before actually doing it.. you should at least have a clue as to what you are doing (or more likely, trying to do) before you go into the move... the biggest fear is the fear of the unknown... (well, and death, but what can you do about that ? XD)
I also advise you to try and learn the tricks gradually... with the aerial, for example, you can start with a cartwheel, then a dive cartwheel, then a one-handed dive cartwheel till you finally get the aerial... that way you GRADUALLY overcome your fear of the move... you can always find ways to gradualize your learning process : )

A quick branle beforehand and a swig of whiskey and you'll be fine.
