Ask? Resumes seem to work.

Ha, well there's that. However I'm sure unless they hired you for a tricking specific class they wouldn't accept you for your lack of formal gymnastics training. I mean, I sure wouldn't haha.
Personally I'd just hope to get noticed. A job at a gym would be lovely.
But then again I'm sure there's more jobs to be done than teaching. Such as, cleaning. GOOO BLACK PEOPLE!

psh, i need to get in good with management or ownership... that would be better than anything!!!
dude, skilz, you should talk to the gym. start a MA Tricking class at the gym. Get Anis, Jeremy, and Chris_D to teach it with you. hahaha. best idea evar?? i think so.

Hahah. I teach Tricking not specifically MA Tricking. They already have martial arts programs at most gyms anyways, not to mention specific dojos throughout the city. That would be cool though. And it would be excellent to have greater experienced professionals as well.
I dunno, I'll see later.

I'll be coaching at the gym I train at relatively soon
Basically you need to get certified to be a tumbling instructor, which involved a written test and a hands on test, plus fees for certification. Certification works in levels based on skill difficulty.

you don't actually have to be able to do any skills at all to be certified to teach them
but it helps

hhaha. yeah, but i wonder how hard it would be to coah, or get hired to do so without the ability to ever demonstrate anything. plus, you'll prob look like a deuche if anyone questioned your methods without being able to back them up with proof they work well though using said abilities.
plus, i try to teach my buddy nick moves i can't yet do, but feel i understand well enough to teach him. and it's harder to teach him than i would think.
Edit: Wait, if thats true, what is the hands on demonstration part??

You probably have to at least be able to do something to be able to teach them.

I'd say it depends on the gym. At my gym for instance, to work there the main prerequisite is: be friends with the coaches. Then, hand in your resume mentioning that you're interested in gymnastics and acrobatics and would love to teach and there you go. Skills aren't even relevant; the lead coach is a fat ass who can't even do a cartwheel.
Seems like a fun job too. All they do is spot little girls all day and when we're there they whine all the time about our shitty technique. They not only say that our technique sucks, they straight out get angry about it. Then I reply that I don't give a shit and they want to kick me out haha.

By do something I meant be able to throw a reasonable tumbling combo at the time of your inception involving a roundoff and a few different techniques involving tucks stretches and twists.
And that's tumbling only, not to mention the various strength and conditioning exercises gymnasts go threw at a very "young" level (which most tricks don't do worth crap), not to mention stuff on bars and beams and such.
Not like, you should be able to know lots of crap about gymnastics.
I'm just saying your average Joe shouldn't be able to walk in there. Only someone who knows how to like, do some moves.
To be honest though, once you grasp a fair understanding of how to do all that stuff, it's not that hard to understand how it works. It's just doing it that gets hard, lol.

KGB7, randymintz, and myself work as cleaners at the gym we trick in (back when I was in ohio, I still do the usual work when I come up to visit haha). The gym owner at one point wanted us to do some kind of instructional lessons on entry level tricking but meh ;p lol.

I emailed them with a resume. And apparently I was the first person in the history of the gym to actually have an interview.. they usually skipped that step.
The one gym I do goto, I don't frequent enough for any serious job, but I know Towels got a gig cleaning for free sessions and refreshments (A great perk)
Tho he knew the owners daughter fairly well. (Not what you know, but who you know eh?)

You think that gyms only push out competition ready all around althletes. The gym I work at does push out many of the provinces top gymnasts, but I'd still say that probably over 80% of the parents of all the gym's students just use gymnastics as a recreational babysitter.

I know his job consisted of ten minutes of work and 50 mins of free gym time haha.

Yea...you're right. But uhhh...your point is? Hahaha.
Nah dude I get what you're saying. Who knows. I just like the good stuff personally.
Wait, they teach tricking at gyms now? Or am i just making a fool of myself in front of the thousands of people who visit this forum?

At some they do. Like, at gyms where good (enough) trickers trick at and get noticed by the coaches there, or if they ask about it I suppose.

not that i know of. but, it would be cool. i'm just thinkin if i know someone who works at my gym, i might be able to get the hook up. using your friends ftw!!1
Im pretty close to a tricknig coach. I've taken over my gyms drop-ins for the summer because all people ask for now is how to gainer and b-kick and stuff like that.
Oh yea, thats one of my perks. I get paid to go to drop-in. And I can come as early as I want to the gym, and every so often I get the keys and decide when to lock up.

you are a lucky son of a bitch. i'm so jealous.
I got offered to work as an instructor at a gym I go too recently and I sorta chuckled.
As much as it'd be nice to have possible free gym time and whatnot, it wouldn't pay that much and I don't like teaching kids, especially about stuff I can't do, like backhandsprings (even though I can backflip and other crap). I've had teaching experience at gyms before, it's obviously going to be different depending on the gym but it's not really for me.
edit: well shit if I could teach the stuff I can do, and not all the gymnastics basics I'd be all for it haha...maybe.
I used to work at a gym teaching tricking and gymnastics, it was horrible and I loathed it because I'm awful at teaching anything (as Syvo can attest to).
my idea of teaching: "do this"
them: "why cant i land!!?"
me: "because youre lazy, do it right"
there were no perks, because the gym was run by evil bastards.
however most gyms let you use it during extra hours or get into open gym for free.

I started working at a gym. I do little kid camps lol... basically just mess around with kids 4 hours a day 3 days a week.. and mess around a little myself. I just started though, hoping I can get more tricking in eventually.
Scott, what did you ask them to get time to trick?

Did anybody else interpret this the way I did at first?
