Im thinking about going into a karate tournament in a couple of months and was just wondering wat people thought would be the best way to go about increasing the type of fitness required for lasting the rounds. I have looked around and see alot of different and contridictory ways to go about it (apart from sparring).
last year i got third place and that was with a completly unconditioned body. i had trouble lasting a two minute round and my shins were so tender i could barely walk. im looking for the gold this time. any help would be great
cheers guys

Get a punching bag, and go savage on it, everyday.

maybe find a sparring partner you can go nuts with? really long times, and go at full intensity?

im thinking thats the best way. does running or skipping do anything? its been a while since i have worked at full capacity and forgotten what makes me stop. i think usually so legs and lack of breath/super fast heart beat. so i should aim for the conditioning and anything that gets gets my heartrate up heaps high?

Yes. Skip your heart away, as for running try it on sand, more of a workout.

You doing Wuko or knockdown? Iv done a few knockdown tournaments and for training i did loads of running on sand dunes with a weight vest, bag work, and loaaaaaaads of sparring. Sparring is the main thing you want to do

its a kyokushin tornament with the gay no punching to the head rule or grabbing. its the only full contact tornament in my area. what about shin conditioning. it will be enough just kicking the bag?
You need to fight with heart.

Skip rope, waste the heavybag and spar like crazy. Shins won't feel as much when you've nutted enough hard kicks on the bag for a good while. Go for anaerobic intervall training, don't sissy around with low intensive cardio since it won't do shit for your fighting.

Yeh i do kyokushin, idealy you want a training partner who is better than you to spar with so you get used to having lumps knocked out of you

Keep the activity and rest intervals similar to what you will be experiencing during the tournament

so really when i train i should focus on exercises that get my heart right up for the length of a round. keep the time fixed (length of a round) but increase the intensity?
