View Full Version : Strange Shoulder Pain

Hmmm this is awkward.
Last night at the gym I went for a standard hypertwist, as I've done many a time before.
However randomly, entering the twist I believe, I felt my shoulder sort of pop and then yea it was like ouch. The pain was sort of towards the back under part of the shoulder.
I should have not used my shoulder as much after that but I was stupid, hmm oh well.
Anyways, now when I move my shoulder throughout a certain range of motion it just dang hurts at the area mostly around the rear of my deltoid. It's not much of a strain pain (well, as I would experience with other leg muscles) it's more of a very uncomfortable stinging type pain, almost sort of unnatural.
Any experiences and or suggestions? Or more importantly, should it just go away with rest?

What shoulder was it and what way do you enter your hypertwist? It would help to see the motion you do as everybodys setup is different, especially for btwist type moves.

I almost mastered this move, the big problem is, when i perform the 540 over the B-twist i reach the ground and is quite boring, this make me a real pain in the ass, i need to twist more faster or jump very much higher?

It was my right shoulder and I twist towards the right. I've done the same thing many a time but this is the first time it happens, seems like a freak accident.
Anyways, I just took some ibuprofen to see if it will reduce inflammation (assuming it's even that inflamed) and thus reduce pain. Will update in an hour or so.

Could be a rotator cuff injury. RICE it.

Nice thread hijacking.

I was wondering about that, although the pain doesn't appear to be in the actual cuffness. But then again I'm not that experienced with this.
Here's a diagram that basically shows where:

It's all towards the back/bottom of arm not much towards the middle or front.
Btw ibuprofen works gaymax for this haha. Gaay

i did something similar doing a 540 about a month ago =(
it took a good few weeks to heal but i was still tricking. not full power so to speak but still.... given the same circumstances id of rested instead. shoulder injuries certainly arnt fun.
Shoulder blade area? Could be you pulled something.
Rest it and don't do much activity for the next couple of days mate. If it persists for over a week or becomes a serious hindrance in daily activites, doctor ASAP.
Use Ibuprofen and eventually some other painkillers (Paracetamol works pretty good for some people.) If you have tiger balm or some other type of goo you can smear, have someone apply it there and rub it in.
Good luck boyo, get back with a report in a couple of days.

I have had similar pains too. Rarely though. When it happens, i usually feel a thrust in the middle of my shoulder (sometimes left, sometimes right shoulder, never both). It fades after a good nights sleep, although i have had a similar pain after pulling my shoulder from a push up. It hurt for days and i always had to hold my shoulder with my other hand for it not to hurt more.

I wouldn't use any pain killers. Obviously, if you have pain that means you shouldnt be doing that particular movement so there is no reason to dull the pain unless it is completly hindering your life.
It could be a rotator cuff injury as I had one of them in the past, but I got mine from exessive throwing at max speeds. I doubt you full tore your rotator cuff, but you could have pulled or strained one of its muscles. Just take it easy with that hand for the next few days. If your pain subsides stretch it a little bit (or stretch it until you feel the pain if it still hurts after the next few days).
Also, when my shoulder was inflamed from my rotator cuff injury my skin was dark red and it was always really really hot. Chances are if you can't tell its inflammed, its not.

Why does everone always think it's the rotator cuff?

um, because maybe it is??

I doubt that now actually.
Well, as in the standard "rotator cuff tear" that most people have. I know it involves one of the muscles though. Remember, there was no force or heavy lifting or whatever to my arm.

It feels like it's in the teres minor or infraspinatous muscle.

walk it off son, walk it off.
Does it hurt when you reach upwards? Does it hurt when you reach for your back pocket? Does it hurt when you externally rotate your arm?

Sorta, not really, and a little more than sorta.

do your ears hang low? do they wobble to and froe? can you tie them in a know? can you tie them in a bow?
Sorta, not really, and a little more than sorta.
Those are hallmark signs for a rotator cuff injury so it probably isn't. The shoulder is an incredibly complex, piece of shit joint, so it could be a whole combination of problems. Rest it and see a sports physician buddeh!

Because I have torn my rotator cuff and I know where it hurts when you do.
