Hey there,

Recently, I've had an insane amount of joint pain in my elbows. It hurts most in the morning but generally continues throughout the day as a dull ache.

I started lifting at the gym 5 months ago and it started about a month ago and has only recently gotten really really bad.

Any remedies / possible problem things I might be doing? I'm really not sure what's up, but I'm very quickly realizing my body can't take something I'm doing.

It seems to hurt most the day after doing pullups extensively.

Thanks for any help / suggestions

Well you'd better stop doing things involving your elbows until they are better

Also it's the pull ups (and probably push ups/press)

Only thing to do now is rest it and see how it goes.

pullups are definately tough on your elbows. After you've rested until the pain has gone, try to find different grips and positions of your arms that don't own your elbows.

Pulling exercises, especially when the elbow's straight, probably stress the ligament a bit. Usually an injury is related to one or the other though, like if it's compression-related for pushing too much you'd think pulling would help or vice versa. It's probably not that simple though I guess.

I used to have this problem, and I solved it by stretching my arms--especially my forearms--extensively before I did any kind of exercise, as well as doing exercise band pushdowns (50 reps) lightly after each workout, just to get the blood flowing through there. After it started to feel better from that (a week or two), I did dumbbell kickbacks twice a week to strengthen my triceps.

Now I never have this problem anymore.

Those triceps kickbacks are really cool, they put a weight to the most work you can put on the triceps and don't compress, a pure lever.

Please tell us more about what you training regiment is. It is not really normal for someone who is 21 and only have a 5 months background in training to have joint problems. Are you sure it is a joint problem? Usually it will take a lot more time for it to happen exept if you have a predisposition to articulatory problems like arthritis.

For those with that kind of problem my advice would be a 1000mg supplementation of glucosamine/day. Add some chondroitine and msm in it if that doesn't help. Past that-------> Cortisol/Cortisone works fine but generaly you need a prescription.

Hey, thanks for all the suggestions.

I have been taking AllFlex which is a combination of Glucosamine, MSM and celadrin up until VERY recently. I just ran out, and it's been after that that this pain has arisen... I didn't even think about that. I'm going to go grab another bottle today and definately going to lay off pullups for a while... even though I love them with all my heart.

My training regiment is, comprised mainly of doing 5x5 sets 3 days a week doing 4 exercises a day. 2 Compound ie: bench, squat, dead, etc, and 2 assistance exercises in a 3x8-10 setup. It's pretty simple... nothing too crazy about it. But it seems to work, aside from my elbows falling off.

Seriously I don't know what to say. You training regiment seems fine. It's a lot of core exercices that involve a lot of muscle, but you're training only 3 times a week, so...no evertraining or overstress here. Do you have resting days in between your working days? Maybe you should try to train more in the 10-12 reps range and see what happen.(This is just a though here).

allflex by allmax nutrition should work fine.

Tennis elbow problems?

Go see a physio. NOW! They will tell you what you need to do, how to do it, how long you should do it and then some.

It's been bad for a month and successively getting worse as I take it so don't expect it to get better unless you do something drastic.

Good luck boyo! Hope it heals up!

Thanks for all the help. I'm going to make an appointment for physio today. I figured that might be the next step... and yes, it has been a bad month of my body falling apart.

Shizah.

thanks again though

Hey, so in case anyone was wondering, I went to physio today and it ends up that I have tendonitis in my rotator cuffs and elbow - forearms.

No upper body activity for a while means I am going to fucking murder my legs for the next while.

Regardless I am a sad panda.

Thanks for all your help regardless.
