I notice that sometimes I can do it effortless on concrete at a decent height, then the next day they will be low, and feel forced. Then a week later they'll start being really high again, and so on. This has been going on for over a year now. Have any of you guys had this problem or know how to resolve it?

have you read about the "Chaos Theory"?
your variations probably have to do with when you sleep, what you eat, and other stuff. or maybe it might be as simple as you needing some rest.

I have to same problem, but at a greater magnitude, probably because I'm less experienced. Some days I can't land them and other days I can fly with them not even thinking about it. I think if you just take your time to focus it should be the same every time

I don't know what chaos theory is, other than splinter cell:eh:
What is it?
And I've done perfect backtucks when I was tired, and bad ones when I was fresh, so that's not it. And I never warm up, so that's not it either. I was thinking that it seems sometimes I can get a really powerful jump and other times I can't, as if it has something to do with tiny phisical mechanics in the set-up of the backflip hmmmm...
EDIT: and since yesterday they were really low, I tried one today with mats behind me and did a whole 1 3/4 backtuck[landing on my back]
EDITx2 And I allways use the "looking foreward/dovicka type technique" It's just that sometimes the center of gravity is around my waist, and other times it's around my head. And remember, this is all arbitrary.

Can be so many things that matters, it could be your state of mind for example, your mood and so on.

I have this problem with the 540 somehow even though i've been able to do it for over a year. Usually now it looks floaty, high and beautiful, but sometimes it looks really forced.
My only suggestion is: KEEP drilling it. Try a back tuck at least three times a day or something, the more reps you get in, the less times you'll get a forced, crappy back tuck and the more times you'll get a cute one.

I've never had a problem like this with backtucks.
Since I've learned 'em I can throw them anytime, anywhere, effortlessly and high.
However, I do have that problem with aerials... sometimes I can do them perfectly on concrete... then other days I can't even do it shoes off in grass...
For aerials, it all depends on how I feel... and I have noticed depending on how I've been eating...

This happened with 540s for me. You just have to drill them a ton. Especially when their bad. Then after a while they won't be as bad on the bad days, and then they'll become consistent.

maybe its what you're wearing? hahah jeans = bad for backtuckingNo, I train myself to perform in the worst conditions, no warm up, heavy/stiff clothes, terrible/uneven/wet terrain. It generally doesn't have much effect on my tricks.
