Stall it out, using your arms at the start by lifting them up, and then bring them down to tuck.

If anyone has any drills to help with this it'd be great, as im also working on this :P

i dont get stalling it out if i dont tuck right away i will land alot worse

Or so you think, if you straight away rotate you will only go as high as your CoG at that point [not very high]. If you firstly jump up, you can raise your CoG to somewhere higher and then tuck, thus landing higher.

People always seem to mention CoG during most type of flip moves (i.e. Shift Cog to your head to get maximal height). I never quite understood how to do this, yet I've seen it being done is "good" frontflips. Is there a specific key to "raise center of gravity" efficiently?

Your front flips are like mine. View the threads I have created and you will find my front flips. Try to jump straighter up instead of diving. As soon as I can land mine good, I am going to make a tutorial including some methods I am using to get good at them.

-block more
-jump up, not outward
-don't look at the ground, look at around head level or a bit higher
-stall the flip!

common tips just floating around that can make a difference

dont forget to stall.
tuck at the same time u hit the peak of your jump.

Yeah man, you move forward a lot. When I do front flips (my better ones) I run, block, then fly up almost completely perpendicular to the ground, stall some height then rotate, land with straight legs. Just focus on the upward jump and the stall before the flip

All the noobs do that HUGE leap before the punch. WHY?!?! Take it from me (who can do fronttucks easily), the less height on the hurdle/leap thing the better. If you do a big, high hurdle all your momentum will be going DOWN. (that is bad). Just do a short, low hurdle, get your feet out in front of you, and PUNCH. Whether or not you have good arm technique you will still land it.

God I want to kill myself when I see people doing them with those huge hurdles.... it doesn't make any sense! :dead:

Hmmm... I think I need to make a tutorial for the Tocano fronttuck method... anyone interested?

Why are you doing them indoors...? Your first problem is that you aren't rotating straight forward. You are a little slanted. Fix that before you think about anything else.

Try throwing yourself up. A lot of times what I did was I threw my arms down to soon which killed my height.

use your legs and your lower body as well as your upper body to really throw up your butt.

You guys need to jump up. UP. You throw your arms down as you jump. :agony:

Ok, for both of you; now I will say the front flip is a very hard technique for beginners, it's all about timing and doing this not that.
FIRST OF ALL, you do not need to block that much. You just need to make sure your feet aren't behind you. Do not buy into all these lies that you NEED to block on a front flip! It's fooooos talk.
Second of all, try with your arms; prep them over head and bend them back, as if you have a soccer ball behind your head and you're going to throw it forwards. Now when you jump, take them from there and swing them upwards as you jump, then continue to swing them in a circular fashion in front of you to help with the tuck. Be sure to jump everything up first, don't jump forwards and don't bend down before you jump.
After you jump, tuck in. Bring chest to knees, bend knees, grab shins or whatever.
Then all you have to do is untuck at the right time, which just takes a little timing practice. Cheers.

There was too much of a delay from the time you finished your hop and the time you flipped (which sorta defeated the purpose of having a run up). Just work on having the frontflip explode right out of hop, and remember to keep your body upright with your arms by your head as you jump.

I had the same problem you did when i started doing front flips, I would have that huge ass jump to the stop then do my jump for the flip which would throw me all off, Just run staright keeps eyes looking forward, you can place your hands wherever i guess but I don't know about this so ask some1 else (i just put my hands waste level then when i leap to go into my front flip they go up giving me height) then you run do a small hop/shuffle to stop the leap up in the air hands up bring chest to knees as hard as you can while bring hands to shins, do not put your hands to your neck level and grab your neck you only are asking to hurt yourself when starting this if you do it that way, you do not get any turning momentum and if you do screw up and can' get all the way around to feet your hands won't be quick enough to hit the ground and stop alot of impact, so Good Luck to you just takes a lot of time and practice.

easy secret to higher front flips:

GET YOUR HANDS UP

I'm serious. get your arms up by your ears and make your arms completely extended.

As long as you have grass you'll be fine. No one breaks their neck on a frontflip. Its the backs that you should be cautious with. Besides, you are landing on your feet anyway, just really low. The best thing you can possibly do is learn to fall safely on grass. If you do this you can try almost ANY trick and not be afraid.

I think someone posted a thread on falling safely a while ago...

Ever tied it without the run up ? After a few landed front flips with the run up you should try it without it. Worst thing that could happen if you dont freak out is that you land on your ass and that doesnt hurt.
I tried them without a run up and landed my first one after my third try.
I mean if you cant block the run up only adds to the horizontal range.
You dont need a run up for a back flip and you dont need it for a front flip trust me. Its all a matter of speed, timing and technique.

Dont throw your arms up and then down just to grab your knees. I start with my arms up and after the jump i throw them forward into a horizontal position this gives me a lot of rotation speed. After that i tuck. I never throw them down cause this kills my height.

If you can land them but low and in a tucked position you should work on the timing. Untuck faster to land upright. Because in most cases its not a matter of height when you land them low. I tuck and untuck very fast to be able to land nearly upright.

please excuse my bad english. I hope you understood what i tried to explain.
