Blocking, when done correctly, has no downside.

It also does nothing besides give you slightly more height. It doesn't add more flip, or more spin. Just makes it take a little longer for you to hit the ground.

Blocking is the change in horizontal momentum into vertical momentum. As such, it only exists in tricks which start with horizontal momentum (standing tricks can SOMETIMES begin with horizontal momentum, like the dip in Btwists and such).

The thing about blocking, is that it is a very common beginners mistake not to block. Blocking wont hand you tricks on a silver platter, but it will make them look nicer.

Blocking is never a bad idea when done correctly, and when possible of course...

You cannot block a standing backflip.

RECAP

Blocking changes horizontal momentum into vertical momentum. Blocking does nothing but add height. Beginners often have trouble learning to block, and when done correctly, blocking is always a good idea.

No, really? You're quite an expert. This is NEW and GROUNDBREAKING information.

Well blocking has been used by gymnasts for many years. The gravity thing I have to blame on him though.

Dogen did invent blocking.

Gravity is Joe Eigo's work.

I made this thread to counteract the effect that the "STOP BLOCKING" thread may have on people newer to tricking.

The fact is, for new people this could VERY well be new information, and it's an important concept to learn correctly, even though it's not applied to everything.

Don't get me wrong, Skilzat's thread was on point, but it justifies its self in a roundabout way... To someone new to tricking, they could very well interpret it incorrectly and come to believe blocking is useless, which it is most certainly not.

And so, if you already understand how blocking works, and don't need it explained to you, kindly get the fuck out of my thread.

Thanks!

*everyone leaves*

btw... im still not convinced that Dogen's Centre of Gravity thing is scientifically sound, or even true. if you look at forces and whatever it doesnt make sense.

The center of gravity tutorial in reality has nothing to do with the principles of the center of gravity haha.

It's quite helpful, but there's no physics too it. It's only go up more before acting and you get higher, which is quite common sense and yet most people don't realize it until they're told of it.

Anyone who disses the "STOP BLOCKING" thread missed the entire point of the thread.

That is, working on blocking should not hold weight over working on correct technique.

And of course the misuse of the word blocking and different contexts/definitions which make it get screwed up.
