With all the "post your GIFS" type threads, I decided to make one that is more centered around the combos/tricks that mean the most to you.

They don't have to be all epic and shit...just choose a GIF that portraits something that means alot to you, and tell us why.

C9 > hook > Sideswipe Gyro > Flash > msl hook > Hyperhook

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g241/iganinkuten/GIFS/sesh.gif

This combo means alot to me because I'm recovering from a foot injury that happened in the Fall of 06' [as some of you may already know]. Back at the TXTG I couldn't C9 yet, nor could I combo at this pace.

It just stands as a testament to the fact that I'm almost 100% :wicked:

http://a185.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/36/l_53da1d46825a8e3ba08eaa58faae5cd0.gif

12-hook-doubletwist. The reason this is important to me is because this was shot at the first session I had after I put out Act III, and I just went balls to the walls. I more-or-less hit every combo in the sampler, plus a lot I had never done before, which really taught me a lot about how much pushing a little bit harder can do

Good thread

This was the first combo that I landed cleanly. Out of all my combos, I've always liked this and variations/additions of it the best. I haven't seen many people do them, so I almost consider it my own little combo (even though it's probably been done to death) This isn't my first one though. I did this at Peterh's house yesterday.

this was my/mcjizzles old avatar

It represents my "whipping back" problem, which has caused me much trouble in backflip moves(no gswitch, standingflash bitchness, no flashes from combos) I have gotten over it a little but normally(and especially in gainers) it still haunts me.

This combo means a lot to me because it was the combo I remember seeing Dave C do the first time I went to the gym. The combo that made me want to trick. The combo that I crashed time and time again in my yard on a cold winter day. The combo that made me shake uncontrollably with excitement after I swung through out of my btwist for the first time. The combo that I lost, but have now regained. Such a simple combo...but it means a lot...

Great thread!

Me Completely Decked out in my Steelers shit at the Denver Broncos hometurf AFC Championship in 2006. I was flipping off a Broncos mural painted Bus and the entire Steelers tailgate cheered for me! The Broncos fans tried to call security but i got away! In addition, it was my first trick after weeks of PT for a BROKEN ankle AND I didn't really know how to wallflip yet (my head is inches from colliding with the bus), it was just too obvious an opportunity to pass up.

The Steelers won the game, which got them into the Superbowl, which they won! SUCH a damn nice day that was!

Nothing new... everyone's seen this gif already, but it's mad important to me because it was one of the last tricks I threw before my knee surgery... I probably shouldn't have done it (what with being injured enough to need surgery and all) but it was during the last GA gathering and I just didn't have the willpower not to trick.

I've had cart fulls and cart full rounds for a long time, but I had been pushing to land the hyper hook version and this was the first time I landed it cleanly.

This one is very important to me as it was my combo EVER. For a year or so (yeah I know) my friend and I had just been doing flips twists and kicks on their own, but one day I decided to put the only 2 flip tricks I knew together. Funnily enough I got it on my first attempt, which made me arrive at the realisation that maybe combos arent THAT much harder than individual tricks. It was a turning point in my tricking career as such, and that's why it matters to me.

this has a big meaning for me for two reasons.

1. it was the first b-twist i ever landed...as bubba said when i put it up on my myspace. i look surprised to land it. I was...cause i was never sure if i was doing it right. And i'm not a good trickster, i don't get things easily at all even tricks that should be easy. But with try after try i landed it.

2. second reason it means alot, first battle i ever was involved with. Furious force vs team fs. It was some badness stuff going down and im proud i could at least do something.

hehe...thx man :)

Hmmm...a lot of people have asked me the btwist st gainer question and I have to admit that I suck at giving advice on this one :(. For me it was just balls-to-the-wall that made me attempt it. Although I can say I have practiced my btwists, twisthooks and landing-on-one-leg-btwist like madman that summer... Basically when you do a swing through here, you want to land with your feet and body pointing the way you came from. If you have troubles with holding your 2nd leg in after the landing, try opening earlier and reach for the ground with the 1st foot and open your chest... Hope it helps :-/

Tornado_swing_Aerial

http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/3649/swingvj6.gif

This combo means alot to me because...
- Aerial was my first 'proper' Trick. Unfortunately I learnt the BKick-Aerial first and it took me ages to get it straight. Because I was afraid of loosing the gymnast-Aerial, I started drilling and driilling it over and over. Suddenly, all the variations came, Twist, Switch, Brandy, Webster, Axe2...

- I had the Axe2Aerial down quite well at that time and I was wondering what I could do with it...

- It's my first swingtrough...

- It's probably the most technical combo I've done so far.

It's weird how alot of people actually think Btwist > st Gainer is harder than Btwist > Cork/Gfull.

Actually I kinda agree, the spin of the Btwist kinda makes it more natural to Cork from versus regular Gainer; but when I have a quirky Btwist when I intend to Cork out of it...I always revert to just doing a Gainer [for a safety precaution] :eh:

Haha I wouldn't go quite that far Jon, but I understand my post could be interpreted multiple ways. Doing a good high flashkick in the middle of a combo like that would be next to impossible. What he did there is extremely difficult. It doesn't change the fact that the flashkick looked hilarious though.

If I haven't made my opinion known about sessh clear then I'll say it now: I respect his abilities and the insane stuff he throws. He's very good. However, I am not a fan of his style. You can hate me for that but style is a flavor, and not everybody likes the same kind. I don't watch sessh's samplers a whole lot because of that. It doesn't entertain me in the same way as others because of my personal preferences. That's not to say he doesn't have style, because he has a huge abundance of it. It's just not my cup of tea, that's all. Examples of styles I like: Ben Brown, Bubba, Anthony Atkins to name a few.

I'm sure you didn't intend for me to respond and expand on this like I have but my statements are not mindless, there's a reason for me saying these things. It all has a source.

i think he was laughing about the fact that it looks pretty much impossible to continue a combo from that position yet sessh finds a flashy way out

Jeez man, it's impressive yes when he does it in the middle of a combo like that because realistically it'd be way to hard to do a good high one in place of it, but judging the move simply by itself? Ugly. Balls or not, it looks like crap. This is where I'm coming from with why I'm not a fan of sessh's style. He does more insane and difficult combos than anybody I've seen, but I have a preference when it comes to combos. Obviously quality of moves is going to be sacrificed when comboing a little, but you can only take it so far until it reaches the point of looking like rubbish. Again, my opinion. My word is not law, it's just not my cup of tea. I've always been about quality over quantity.

Btwist Round > Hook > 540

Reason: Well, this was my first official combo (I had done a tornado > 540 before), and I did it at my first Gathering (TXTG 07) and infront of tricksters I've admired for years. Though I have completely lost the comob (and my btwist rounds for that matter), I still love it.

I understand where you are coming from (i too value quality over quantity) but I find Sess to be very clean all while being the most technical trickster out there. (in addition to the fact that he is the single most helpful "pro"-trickster on the forum)
That alone deserves respect, not you leaving ill-mannered comments. Thats like some random mediocre trickster laughing at Ben Brown for falling on a doubletwist. Its disrespectful and makes you look silly heh.
But whatever, I love you Swartz, but that comment was ridiculous.

That's not the point Skilz...the point is effectively communicating what it is that you're doing.

A hook > Aerial > s/t scoot > s/t Cork is different than a hook > Aerial > scoot > s/t Cork. The latter suggest that a "marcel rush" is being used to get into the scoot which occurs after the Aerial. That single action not only changes the difficulty of the combo [cause the Cork will be comparitively stronger/easier if M-RUSH is used], but it also changes the rhythm and flow of the combo.

ahhh this brings up a point that has been bothering me a lot of lately. People try to get too creative or weird!
They sacrifice rhythm and flow, in order to try to be a little creative.
In the end it just looks goofy and ugly.
I also thought of this when G-Dong commented on Anis saying "He is finally bringing some variety (or creativity) into his combos"...That got me thinking, I always thought Anis was one of the most innovative people in tricks. He (along with Luu) brought corks, double corks, cork swingthrus and many other twisting skills into the tricking world. Opened up so many possibilities...Since when is doing a bunch of scoots or weird ground movements cooler then that?

OH REALLY SESSHOUMARU!?

Well, need a cite the time in your grand master swipe exampler in which you said that the term "s/t" need not be said when speaking of comboing into masterswipe stuff because it is implied? So, it would seem now that would not be effectively communicating what's happening, amirite?

So that means one could say, Aerial > Masterswipe. Well, how do I know they didn't put both their feet down, THEN lift into the masterswipe?

You see, you can't say "this is implied here", but then not allow other things to be implied! What that is saying is that adding the "s/t" before the masterswipe is extraneous, well ho ho ho, I say the same thing about adding something before scooooooot.

But that's just my perception, obviously.

I don't think he meant it as, Anis isn't dope...cause it's plain to see that he is. What he means is that, what he's doing isn't hard if you know how to do it [if that makes sense].

Under normal circumstances, most people trick with the flow [hook > 540 > Btwist > s/t Gainer]...and if they whant to upgrade, the do this [hook > 540 > Btwist > s/t Gfull]. So instead of changing the combo [which is an expression of flow and rhythm], they just alter the last trick [as supposed to changing up the rhythm]. What this does is, allows people to do different combos without realy venturing outside their comfort zone [which is apart of being creative, venturing outside the comfort zone] and selling it to you like it's a different product.

As much as you've seen Anis do Raiz > s/t Double Cork and reverse Atwist, why hasn't he done Raiz > c/t reverse Atwist yet? Because he's not used to doing such movements. Why? Because he doesn't venture outside his comfort zone that much.

When I was in Cali after LKC 06' I was working Parafuso > reverse Raiz, then I thought...let's get Anis, cause I bet he could do it hella clean. I went up to him and told him to give it a try, cause I want to see what it looks like [I could already do it mind you]...you know what he did? He kinda walked through the motions, then told me "I can't do that papi". He didn't even try it...it was out of his comfort zone.

It's easy to do what you always do, when you've been doing it for so long. For anybody who can Btwist > s/t Cork, and can Atwist as also, try Btwist > reverse Atwist...and see how hard that shit is.

why is a s/t and not a msl?

It's a "swingthru" because your trail leg sweeps past the ground before kicking back up for the Cork. In a "missleg" it wouldn't past the ground at all, which means [in this case] that the scoot is travelling in the opposite direction as the Aerial was.

This is all fine and true--but this doesn't mean the majority of the people trying to mimic you (because lets face it, not many can make the ground movements you do look all that cool, other than you) and saying that they are being super creative don't look ugly while doing so. I mean there is a difference between Terada doing a 360 front - backroll (on ground) - fulltwistround and then adding three different types of scoots to an otherwise unoriginal combo.

I always found Anis to be pretty damn original in what he is doing. That was until everyone started copying him.
I was mainly talking about how the majority of people that are referred to as doing super creative combos nowadays are just adding scoots and other ground movements into an otherwise common combo. I don't see whats so original or creative about that.

Skilzat85X
Oct-23-07, 10:04 PM
Well it WAS original, but then everyone was like "hey that's cool" so now everyone does them ahaha.

I'm hoping to have some creative and original little transitions or mini-moves or whatever to display in my next video. I guess we'll have to see if there's as good as I'm hoping. :punched:

But I do think ground moves to add much creativity, sorta. I mean, you're taking it from the sky to the ground back to the sky, that's just a very aesthetically pleasing thing to see.
While many people are just copying it, I find the most creative or cool looking combos, to me, do involve some ground work. IE, Ott's front+back scoot at the same time in combo, uhhh something I saw in one of the HTU video's where he went back handspring > leg spazz > split > coindrop > trick lol. Crazyasian I'm not sure what trick he does but it's either a cork swipe or anything landing on the swiping leg, then dropping into coindrop and such. And I Jester makes use of lots of ground work too.

It's sorta like, on dolphin olympics. Sure it's all cool when you're flying all up in the air, but it's extra awesome when you dive back down into the water and spin around it's like OOOOH SNAP and then you shoot back out into the sky and it's like oooh snap that's one bad mutha shut yo mouth.

sesshoumaru
Oct-23-07, 10:28 PM
Well if you're talking in that context...I agree, adding a scoot here and there doesn't make a combo more creative, just more transitive. As far as people abusing other peoples "signature combos", I agree. It makes what would be pretty innovative combo, more generic.

I experienced something similar:

When I was at FMS Loopkicks Gathering 2007 I was drilling my Pop 720 Triple. Then I saw Anis right next to me trying similar stuff and I went to him asking if he could show me his Pop 720 Triple ...
I mean, we all know that this trick should be very easy to him but you know what he said to me:

"I'm sorry, but I cannot do this ... "

At that moment it seemed to me as if he was to shy or just a bit afraid to be not successfull in a trick or combo, once. Because ...

Anis is used to land everything he does. He crashes nearly never. To me he seems like a proud man with extreme skills who prefers to attempt new things for his own, not in public. Just my experience ...

But we should not forget that ANIS is BIG! And most of us are not big [yet] ...

Nah, I'm not telling you to missleg it [unless you want to try]. I was mentioning doing a Btwist, and when your second leg touches the ground [landing one foot at a time out of the Btwist], that leg becomes the leg you kick back for the reverse Atwist...so you use the leg that you land on [in the Btwist] to jump off of.

It should go something like this: Btwist > a small shuffle backwards > reverse Atwist

If you can swing outta that reverse Atwist that'd be freaking rad. My reverse Atwist isn't strong enough after the Btwist for me to do a combo such as that.
