I just got comfortable enough in wrong-leg gainers to try a cork and its not working, I include a gainer and a standing full clip for possible additional information, any tips?

I'm learning corks at the moment too, I just started landing them recently but i got a heap of advice on how to fix it now... I think I understand the move now :) I might be wrong but eh...

When you first learn corks, you should try and make them as high as possible, then when u can make them high, then you start experimenting with making them lower and faster for swing thru's.

If I were you, first thing i'd do is work on your jstep-moon kicks and Jstep-gainers, try and make them high. On take off, Your body should be upright (a slight tilt for blocking purposes... so you land basically on the spot you took off from), arms directly above your head, leg almost completely straight and at your waist height or higher. Keep your chest perpendicular to the ground, watching forward as your leg reaches your face and pulls your body over.

The run up is important, the last two steps should be really big, specifically your last step so you can swing your kicking leg through hard (with your other leg out in front of your momentum for blocking), also throw your arms up hard (of course). Then time your jump so that your taking off in the position described aboved. One thing I didn't know is, you don't have to jump straight away, you can hold it there for a bit.

when it comes to cork, just kick your leg over your opposite shoulder and you will spin naturally.

My problem with cork was I was thinking about spinning horizontally etc when it really comes so naturally, I improved when I started thinking about everything else.

With that information in mind, I think your next step is to just get a nice kick the moon, you should be coming down on one foot not two like that. Try and get your run into it as fast as you can and maintaining all the momentum you can to make it really really high. Once you've got that down you should start learning cork.

Second step to when you start learning cork, I think you should take the mat away, and just use your awesome kick the moon over the shoulder and put a little bit of twist in you will make it all the way around but probably stack it and say, shit that was easy! I just need to twist a little harder and I will land it! then you will twist a little harder and land it. Whereas if you keep the mat there your just asking not to land it.

I'm no expert on corks though, it just seems no one else has replied to you so i did :p

thanks a lot, any me-specific criticism anyone?

If i've done my job right in explaining to you (what others have explained to me, sorry its second hand knowledge), I think you should be able to critique yourself.

For instance, your back is parallel to the ground on take off, it should be much more upright... your leg is bent (should be straighter), your also travelling towards the mat so you could block better.

Since your back is not straight you can't throw your arms above your head and you have a much greater surface area to fight with when going for height. Fix that and I think you will be landing your corks.

I'm no cork expert, but it seems to me, you're pretty close, just drill 'em...

i'm at school so i can't watch your video :)
i can give you a few tips though:
-have a good moonkick
-try throwing your arms allt he way up in the direction of the twist ( over your left shoulder )
-delay a split second and then twist as fast as you can
- spot the floor and try landing on the left foot while keeping your chest all the way up .

some random tips but keep them in mind :)

Your problem is that a cork isn't a fulltwisting gainer, it's a fulltwisting slant gainer. Learn to slant gainer flash cleanly and with ease, then corks will come without having to crash over and over.

Elywn that post was awesome, i learnt a lot from it

But just one thing,

your leg is bent (should be straighter)

I don't think that matters, firstly because I don't see how having a straight leg changes anything and secondly because I've seen heaps of people do crazy corks with bent legs. Morgan does his double corks with a bent leg, but I haven't seen any of his recent ones to check if he still does.

I think you just need to kick really powerfully.

Dave :)! most that advice was stuff morgan told me!

I don't think your leg has to be completely straight, but fairly straight, if you have morgans double cork swing thru cork video his leg is pretty straight I think, but maybe thats a matter of perception... haha, some people might look at his leg in that video and say its a little bent...

But yea! I personally can hardly cork im just repeating what the master told me which I hope hasn't gotten too muddled in the hearsay.

Ahh ok cool.

Just watched his triple attempts, and he has a bent leg on them when he brings his leg up.

yea i got THE advice for u, because ur corking ON a matress, u force urself to tavel so u land safely on it, 1 that says ur not too confident, second, it forces u to travel :P meaning u go FAR instead of UP do it without the matress, realise it doesnt hurt that much to fail a trick on grass, then drill it.

the mattress is because I have fallen on my hard-as-a-rock backyard grass too many times . and i believe i noted in the begining these a WRONG LEG (aka: weaker leg) corks.

Hey Dave!

your right his leg is bent more in those triple attempts, probably just as high as his double swing thru... So yea, whatever ey.

Dovicka: If its dangerous to practise without the mat, try moon kicks :)? Just might take you a little longer to get to cork but atleast you will have moonkicks right? You will definitely get moonkick down. Its up to you, personally I hate landing on my side over and over again.

Kicking it up bent is like swinging a bent baseball bat.

However, bending and then snapping the leg upward (as in straightening it as you throw it up) could add some speed.
