How much flexibility do you need to start tricking.

I swear i used to be more flexible, but I just can't do any tricks really.
I can kind of butterfly and tornado, but they are limited by my flexibility

Heres a summary of my flexibility:
straight legged front kick: about chin height on right leg, chest height on left leg.

Side splits: can get to about 100 degree angle between my legs

front splits : no where near unfortunately..

I think that about sums it up.

I've been trying to get more flexible but after a week of stretching every day and trying to trick my legs are just sore and flexibility has decreased!

Are you using correct technique? Try to get an outside force to help you stetch. Have someone else help put weight on you during the splits. Its weird because I have better front splits than side splits.

You gotta' have an "axekick/front lift" at least above your head level, to be able to do tricks like, allright. But if you're cool, go for dynamic oversplits.

I thought I did have the front lift above my head ages ago, but it turns out that I was rotating my hips whilst doing it, so the flexibility isn't as much as I thought it was. I stopped trying to go higher because of that, now I'm kicking properly hopefully I'll make some progress.

Read yon Juji's guide. Also, ask in the flexibility forum if you haven't already.

WTF tt ate my post. Oh well, I said i'm about as flexible as you and I'm alright at tricking, got more than you to say the least =). ANd that's not meant to be vain or w/e, I just mean don't feel inhibited by your current flexibility, as you can progress a looong way before your flexibility literally prevents you from learning new tricks.

Just make sure you carry on stretching and practice lots of kicks, that will help your flexibility as you trick.

DOn't try aerials though ; )

You have to be able to arch your back so hard that you can feel the bumps of your spinal cord in your front.

Only then will you be able to safely post on here and exclaim how "HARDCORE" you are while complaining how McDonalds and pepsi gives you a tummy ache.

Why not try aerials?

Because they require a lot of flexibility not only to land but also to look even remotely good.

YOu'll end up landing short and fucking your ankles or just getting nowhere near. Stick to drilling btwists (or bkicks), 540s etc til you get them - btwists don't require huge flexibility and 540s look sick even if you aren't hugely flexible, + will help you stretch a lot.

oh yup fair enough.
I've been trying to do aerials and suck at them!

EDIT: I'm a lot better at B-kicks and tornado kicks etc, so I'll work on those tricks first.
