I read about how some of you guys have access to gyms with plyometric flooring like 3-5 times a week, and some can be in there like 2,5 hours for free  I was just wondering what the ratio around here was
So, a couple of questions:
- Do you even have access to a gym? If yes, since when? (since when you started tricking, or did you find out about it later?)
- How many times do you get to trick in a gym on a weekly or monthly basis? And for how long?
- Plyo flooring or something else? (wooden floors with mats?)
- How much does it cost you?
- How long does it take you to get there?
:wonder:
Before when i started out i went to probably one of the biggest gymnastics gyms in Victoria i think. Anywho, if u showed up randomly it was 15 dollars (au) from 8:30-10:30. If you paid by term to go once a week it was 12 dollars, if you paid to go twice a week it was 10 dollars. I had to drive approximately 30mins maybe more? to get there and it was a REAL hassle for my parents, cuz it was expensive to. I went to a gym for maybe 1 year? where eventually learnt a backflip and set a starting block for a whole bunch of other moves (yes im a slow learner).
Then my parents stopped taking me and i went back to grass... then back to that gym again i think. I learnt sidelfip and r/o back on grass. then went to the gym and cleaned my move up. Then stopped again. To be honest, i have developed a love for tricking out doors and on nice grass, and i seem to get all my moves on it. Plyo and foam pits is allot of fun, but yeah. Btw, this gym was fully decked out.
Recently i went to another gymnasium really close buy, but they kicked me out after 3 sessiosn i think when they found out wasn't 18 LOL! That was a flat charge of 10 dollars per lesson. and took me maybe 15 mins to get to? All my moves were allot higher and cleaner and i could land aerials with ease, something i couldn't do on grass. although my kicks sucked on plyo for some reason.
Now I've given up on gyms and have decided it's grass all the way. Nothing better then going to a nice park on a sunny day, with the birds chirpping and grass looking green and beautiful. Inspiring! and free!

I have been searching a gym since I started tricking (2002), but they just allow me to take gymnastic classes, so I´ve been training always in grass.
But before this summer I found another gym and I told them that i´m in an acrobatic team for shows (yes, i´m a little bit liar hahaha), and I need a place to improve. After show them some moves, they agreed.
The gym has plyo floor, trampolines, foam pit, matts etc. I´ll start with 3 teammates next Wednesday, and i´ll pay 180 € per season (9 months), Monday – Friday, 17:00-20:30.
After searching, phoning and asking for a open gym these years, I can´t explain how happy I´am now. I´ll be able to train on winter and don´t be worried about if it´s raining or not, and I expect big improvements in my tricks :)

Haha, fun split so far! I gotta agree that grass has way more life and the fun-factor is higher than to trick inside four walls... but I'm very happy I found access to a plyometric gym, because the weather is terrible a lot of the times. And I gotta admit I wouldn't be doing certain things without attempting them on plyo first (in the long run I probably would, if I never found a gym haha).
My story: I found out about tricking in the summer of 2004, and I tricked on grass only until December 2005. My buddies and I decided it would suck to quit tricking for a while, so we rented a simple school gym with a wooden floor, and we build a little construction with mats to trick on nicely. We had this gym until February 2006, for 1 hour a week. 'Twas about a 15 minute drive with the bicycle. Here's a sampler of that good ol' time: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=P1uUM37I60s
As 2006 advanced I found some more dutch tricksters on TT and heard about a plyo gym not too far away. That's the gym I still trick in, great for when the weather is crap. I trick in it like 3-4 times a month for 1,5 hours - it's a 60 minute travel total, with bike and train. It costs 45 euros for that 1,5 hours - and I split this with the people I'm in. First sampler stuff filmed in that gym was in Vapor: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=o3ki-TDmTA4

i occasionally trick in the same gym as tatsumaru. but only like 2 times a year or so haha. it suck 'cause i live like 160 kms away from that gym. but recently a friend of mine found out about a gym that's a lot closer to my home so hopefully that will be a nice tricking place during winter.
and apparently there is are gymnastics classes in a building near my school, with airtracks and stuff so i want to check that out too.
the closest gym is an hour away. i get to go to the gym maybe once every 1-2 months for a session of 2-3 hours or so
but this is mostly due to me not having a car, so to go i have to find someone else who wants to go and drive, which can be hard
but during the school year i have access to wood floor with mats so its not too bad
otherwise i train on grass or sand
edit:
oh yea, gym costs $10 for a 2 hour session

i go to a gym twice a week. its like pedo heaven.
Uhhhmm once a week atm, takes me about 1.5-2 hours of train journey to get there and the same back each time, for a 1.5 hour session, about 20 minutes of which is spent on an obligatory warmup.
So I travel about 4 hours a week for 1 hour of gym tricking. Costs £3 for the session. Doesn't seem particularly viable on paper but Oh how i value my gym time =D

I seem to manage to find a gym to goto wherever I go.
Rugby
Milton Keynes
Banbury
Derby
and now Birmingham.
I will be paying £70ish a year and that will give me access to the gym 3 times a week for 2 hours a session.

Back in Dallas, I go to a gym once a week and usually trick on astroturf (I am allergic to grass). Here in Alabama, I have no access to a gym, so I trick in a martial arts room (very small) at the rec center.
I started tricking before I joined gymnastics my senior year in high school. At that point I had access to a gym 5 times a week... sadly, I didn't "start" tricking until this past summer.

Dang alpha, lucky. Hez, unlucky haha. But you're right, the less you get in, the more you value your time in a gym. For me it's still special every time, so I'd rather not waste my time or relax too much / like I would on grass!
I'm really getting the impression that plyo gyms aren't hard to find at all in the UK

I can use the gym where I'm a judo instructor whenever there are no other classes. So we theoretically could use it every day or night. But due to our other Sports like judo and weightlifting we only train once or twice a week. The gym is free for us, but unfortunately we have no plyo, only mats. But hey, you can't have everything
When we (our team) first started tricking, we went to a gym that was only open gym session on Wednesdays from 8:30-11 for 5 bucks...but as more and more cheerleaders came, it became waaay more crowded. It was first one lane for cheerleader and another for the tumbling track...then it become 2 lanes for stupid cheerleaders and kinda 2 lanes for tumblers...which only gave us 3-4 lanes to trick in... and they for some reason started pushing the time back....eventually it was 9:15ish to 10...but for 5 bucks i guess it was alright. but 5 bucks to almost keep hitting people...and sharing the same floor with EMC? Gay I say.
Anyway, after putting up with the annoying amounts of people and always being crowded, we searched out for a new gym after about a year. of course the place we're at has been getting crowded too, but not as crowded as the other stupid place. really big, has two floors, one being plyo and the other plyo but without the springs. but for 10 bucks...it's pricey, but compared to othe rplaces not bad...but they only open up once a week.
now i just use my college's gym, which has a room for Martial Arts thats just matted over a wooden floor. i find it good enough, and its free! but they have classes there every now and then, so i just go to the grass field and trick there when i dont have access to it there. so its a good way to get a grass session, matted in a room session, and a gym session.

I trick in a shithole of a gym...It's woodenfloor with only like 2,5 m^2 of mats...The mats suck though...It's softer falling on grass then this crap :-S. The fuckers who own the gym keep all the good equipment (tumbling track tramps etc.) behind closed doors, which I don't have the key to...I only have the gym on Thursday for 2 hours...it's hell :(. I tried renting a MA dojo, but fuckers just never answer my mails >:-/. Oh...it's for free btw...

i very sporadically have access to gyms.
maybe once or twice a month.
there used to be a steady gym about 30 m ins from my house, that was totally shitty and un airconditioned (and had steel beams like randomly in the middle of the floor)
but i spit on the owner so that's not so uh..steady anymore.
oh but i think we have a steady every other friday gym now...it's a cheer gym that my little sister, two cousins go to. . .my aunt is also a coach there.
problem is, she doesn't want me and my tricking boys coming and "taking over the gym" (which is bullshit! theyre all very respectful TKD instructors!)
ugh
10 dollars, 2 hours for a moderately sized floor :\

That is really lame, wtf is a gym for?

I do have access to a gym and for about a year or so. I found out about it after I started tricking though.

Maybe twice a month or so. For about 2-3 hours.
- Plyo flooring or something else? (wooden floors with mats?)
The best plyo flooring in england ;]
- How much does it cost you?
£4
- How long does it take you to get there?
About 20 minutes on the train or 15 minutes by car =]

Exactly... it seems as though every "higher up" figure in a gym around here has a stick up their ass... its really quite frustrating especially when my friends and I are nice kids that just want somewhere to practice.

There are various gyms where I'm at but due to my work schedule and other crap I'm usually able to only work in one 2 hour session a week (at most) and I haven't even been tricking much lately so even that's irrelevant.

I train for almost a year, now and then, not much structure ;)
but i am trying to get some. But well lets say 2 to 3 times a month in plyogym, along with Tatsu and Furiku. Costs depent of the number of people. 30 euro for an hour split by the number of people. further more i outside now and then, i live near the dunes and beach so it's nice training. Got to do it more
The only gym-like place near me is a huge room with judo mats on the entire floor, costs about 30 euro for 2 hours, but there are usually about 30 people, bboys, capoeiristas, freerunners, you name it, so it's cheap. But it's only once a week.Oh, and there is another, but that's just a school gym with a trampoline and some thicker crashmats, and it's free  Never been on plyo, and likely won't be for a long time.
