View Full Version : I hardly see any of this trick in people's samplers!

Its just like a variation of an aerial!
So why is it that people hardly ever use front aerials or front-to-side aerials?
I don't get it. I mean, with a front-to-side aerial, you could use in comboing doing, e.g. front-to-side aerial>cart. front....or possibly even front aerial> front-to-side aerial>cart. front.
There are endless possibilities. So why not use them?

Are you talking about a regular aerial where you just land facing sideways a little?
If so it's not a variation, it's just a normal aerial. How you land your aerial depends on what you want to combo into.
Yesterday I was doing Aerial > Front in the way you're describing. It's not really a big deal.

no, no, no. What i mean is a front aerial. o.k. Think....front walkover? That but in aerial form. Front-to-side aerial. Front aerial, but halfway into it, you twist and land sideways. ummmmm....quite alot of elite gymnasts use it in their beam routines.

That's one foot sideflip or an aerial

For instance, lynette lisle. Great Britain gymnast. 2006 Glasgow Grand Prix. The front aerial to side aerial is at 00:30 (but in this tt thing its at 01:05 )

So... like a webster quartertwist?
No, not a lot of people use that.
And I think I may know the underlying reason.
Edit: Oh for christ's sake that's just a tucked aerial!
EVERYBODY does them!

At 1:04 TT time.
Man this video was like one of my favorites back in the day ahaha.
But yea, it's sorta an aerial fakeout to front aerial, or just like, mix of front and regular aerial haha.
Noone does them cause they're hard to combo well.

I think he means tucking and landing sideways like the gymnast lady.

Well I don't think he realizes that "front to side" aerials are just Aerials haha, and "front aerials" is just what he point in the video before the chick does the crappy side flip aerial. Then again, landing aerials sideways with straight legs on any straight line is hard.
I dunno, I just felt like talking about that aerial to fakeout webster type thing (aerial FEINT front aerial if you will ahaha) because that Lateef video is awesome.

Ok. Fine forget the front-to-side aerial. I think it looks cool, but anyway. What about the front aerial. they are quite hard to do. Why doesn't anyone do them?

Front aerials are easy. Switching them is easy too I found out, it's just timing.

tim and pete got some good aerials. the move on beam is a side sumi, i love them and do them very crustaciously. its worth more than an aerial on beam, therefore it = gooder at life?

The possibilites are actually quite limited...since you basically land with both legs at the same time, there isn't that "stepout" characteristic that yields you forward/lateral momentum...therefore, comboing after it requires some thought.
As far as people not using it, you couldn't be more wrong...Tony Surphman, Shawn Prommar, Kyle McLean, Ryan Sas, and I use it every now and then. It's all about if you recognize it when you see it.

I use it at 3:13.
