View Full Version : NEW CLUB540 - PLEASE READ

Hey guys it's Sean Cannon from club540.com.
I know that site's been collecting dust forever and I even posted on Bilang about letting it go cuz nobody used it anymore. There are many reasons I haven't been upkeeping that site, but I'm not gonna get into those right now.
Well, long story short, I was chatting with Hans and Chris D and they convinced me to write a full-fledged version 4 with the understanding that they're gonna be fully backing the project. In a sense, Club540 V4 will be run by Loopkicks - Tutorial rewrites, Tricktionary definition rewrites, etc... the works - with the hope that more teams will jump on board and unite the tricking community.
As for the videos, the site is going to become something completely different than it is now. I'm going to be removing all the videos currently on there and offering them for download for free in an archive through the end of the year, and replacing video uploads with Youtube submissions (embedded Youtube vids)
All the users on club540.com will be deleted and replaced with the confirmed users from Club540.net. I'm eliminating all reasons to create shit accounts on the site by letting people watch the vids without needing to login first (since they'll be on youtube, bandwidth won't be an issue anymore). Club540.com will adapt the functionality of club540.net (local trickster search, private email system, custom pages), and I will be coding the team and calendar modules to create a better community environment. I'm also going to add privacy filters so people don't need to hide their real names with stupid spam crap. I never understood that, personally.. I mean, unless you're a 13 year old girl or you're downloading illegal stuff what's the point in hiding your real name?... but to each his own; your last names and emails will be hidden on both club540 sites.
Club540.net and Club540.com will be sharing a database so that Club540.net's registry can actually grow and we can get that project off the ground. Basically they'll both have the same users, but the .com will be for you guys and the .net will be for the talent scouts once we hit that 5000 user mark.
Club540.com's forum sucks. Everybody knows it and I agree with them. I coded that thing in 2003, so whatever. I refuse to install Vbulletin or PhpBB cuz quite frankly those things are poorly-coded and are about 800% larger than they need to be as far as disk space goes. I'll be recoding the forum as my last priority, and possibly leaving the forum out alltogether depending on user response. Bilang and TT get plenty of forum traffic and as of now I'd much rather support these sites and not compete with them.
So what I'm asking of you right now is for specific ideas and requests so that when the site is completed you can't fucking complain all day that the site isn't what you thought it would be. Seriously, I'm a coder first and a martial artist 2nd which is why having Loopkicks on board is gonna eliminate any "sean doesn't know shit about tricking so screw club540" attitudes, right?
Any and all feedback is MUCH appreciated - seriously.
Peace~

I want the tricktionary to have more tricks on it and better examplers. That is all I ask.

sounds like a plan, though frequently user-created content to sites is of poor quality. you may want to consider only allowing certain users to post tutorials, guides, definitions and writeups to avoid a lot of riff-raff, or have them on an approve-as-necessary basis.
The main page needs kick (pun intended). Make sure you have a section for featured videos, as well as recently updated videos. Major contributors (people releasing exceptional quality samplers and material) should be noted as such. It doesn't have to be a complete youtube ripoff, but their format DOES work well as far as catering specific films to individuals.

Sounds interesting. Let us see how this goes.

Yea I agree with you Dave. Currently all the tutorials are filtered (I have to approve each one), but I only deny them if they fuck up the step-by-step photos.
One thing I'm going to implement is that each video has a lifespan, and that you can give the video props or drops. If a video doesn't have a high enough props/drops ratio after a month, it's auto-deleted. That'll eliminate the need for me to go in and find and remove all those damn trampoline backflip videos nobody comments on.
I think one of the biggest complaints about club540 currently is the plethora of crappy videos on there. I mean, the site IS a place for anybody who's working on a trick to share a clip and get feedback, but it does seem like 80% of the videos are wicked noob.

a large tricktionary!
-maybe including a few clips not just one of each trick.
-a rating system for each trick; how good it looks, how difficult it is, etc...
how about some sort of combo generater, if thats possible?
maybe some bios of pro tricksters...like anis, chris d, luu, lazy boi, sessh, etc...

Wow im glad club540 is going. Its where I started tricking haha. Not much to say really daves ideas are good and so are yours. Just make sure all the information and tutorials and such are of good quality. A lot of the tutorials on the old club540 were fairly poor.

Honestly, Sean, I was disappointed by the many episodes that Club540 would go through a downtime and becoming lax on its updates, because Club540 was (and now, will yet again become) the reference site I used for tricking.
The idea of having so many people demonstrate a trick and being able to download it all at one's leisure for comparative basis was a dream come true for me. For many trickers such as myself, we are analytical and calculating; many of us take visual sources and break it down almost into equation like manner, and it computes so well when we finally put it into application.
So, in other words, don't fully scrap the idea of having people submit trick videos (specifically the single trick/combo videos), because, frankly, youtube doesn't even come close to the grounds that your site established.
I do agree, however, that the forum was a bit on the...well, not so good side, and the user submitted tutorials were all either very convoluted or very unclear and rushed.
In final note, I do agree about the props or drop system. Even though I loved going through the database and picking out videos that I would eventually use for referencing, I know that one too many times I would download a video of a trick being preformed very poorly, and being a little bit disappointed knowing I wasted the time and space to download it. So, once again Sean, great idea.
I can't wait for the revival of club540. As a tricker who started when the site was in its prime, I can't wait for it to return to its days of glory.

well it would be nice if tricks in tricktionary would be categorised in big categories.
like aerial variations, backflip variations, bkick btwist variations, doubleleg variations, jumping inside kick tricks, jumping outside kick tricks, raiz variations, ground moves (kip-ups, tidos, flares etc.) frontflip variations, sideflip variations (are there?), basic kicks, maybe hand techniques too(gimme hand techniques! :D).
it would be also nice to see some kinda news or updates on main page from time to time, so people won't have the feeling that they are on the dead site.

Oct-03-07, 12:09 PM
How would hand techniques fit in the tricktionary? Can you give me an example?
As for the updates, I'm going to have the front page be populated with upcoming events posted on the calendar (gatherings, tournaments, etc.) as well as newly posted vids and tutorials.
you're going to need more than just yourself accepting these tutorials, content etc.
and a more specific tricktionary would be good.seperation into catagories butterfly twist tricks, double leg tricks etc.and also techniques of doing these tricks. this is also where you could put tutorials.
i'm sure a lot of people from here will want to help with content if you let them.
yep i pretty much said the same as everyone else.

Either destroy the tricktionary (good idea), or get a team of well-minded people to come up with the tricks/lists for them.
A good idea would be to take most of the tricks from T101, then add in the "gymnastics" based tricks that people do (relatively) commonly that Sessh chose to leave out, then a quick little description of each.
All in all make sure it is a GROUP of people who know what the heck they're talking about, so we don't get crap like "cheat gainers" and "cheat 720 doubles" put on the list, and so we don't get misrepresenting defintions.
And make it pretty.

Oct-03-07, 12:25 PM
Yea I mentioned Loopkicks is going to be moderating most of the site with the idea that more teams and respected individuals will be jumping on board.
Ideally, I'd like Club540 to be "run" by 15-20 well-known and respected trickers who can speak for the majority and keep people involved and active. Loopkicks is just the first team to suggest the idea to me and since I'm doing the 2008 Loopkicks camp website I've been chatting with ChrisD a lot lately and exchanging ideas with him.

main problem was much of the information being largely seen as inaccurate. probably the reason for the decline in the site's use.

Actually, it depends on how you would do it.
If like, it was divided categorically, I could very well see a section called "(useless for tricking) hand forms". But see it's probably cause I'm visualizing just sticking them on the list of tricks like we have now. I dunno Sean, it depends on how you're going to format this shizzle!

cool, I very much like the new ideas.
The tutorials section should allow for both video tutorials, picture tutorials and hybrids of both
The Tricktionary should have the ability for users to add their own tricks. I really liked trickipedia.com when that was around, god knows where that went. It was basicaly a wikipedia tricktionary, it would be cool for the club540 one to have a similar structure.
AlienWebguy
Oct-03-07, 12:49 PM
Yea the new design is very web2.0ish. It's looking pretty pimp so far.
The tricktionary is going to be a more elaborate neokarate.net but I HAVE to filter out crap or else it'll become exactly that.
Then again, I'd much rather just adopt and base the tricktionary off of Sessh's document on tricking structure cuz it really simplifies things.

i think their should be a sport karate aspect..alot of tricksters wanna do the sport karate thing but dont know where to go. and it would defintly offer something different to the community and a bit more uniting of the whole sport karate and tricksters aspect. I mean everything sean has said he's gonna do really sounds like what tt is doing now. uniting the community, having respected people come through, having tutorials.
what would the new club540 offer that tt doesnt already offer. you gotta come up with some new innovative ideas to bring in new people.

Thats exactly why i'm asking for feedback and ideas. I'm not trying to replace juji's site. I'm just trying to bring club540 back better than ever.
As for unique features, it'll have Club540.net's proximity search to find local trickers, but it'll be cool cuz you'll actually be able to see vids associated with said local tricker so you can decide if you want to actually invite the kid or not haha.

i like that idea..scrubs can trick wit scrubs lol. playing but that is a good feature. possibly a tutorial rating....so like on the new forum everyone will probably wanna throw their tutorials and examplers on..but not everyone is good. possibly a rating and comment section on if a tutorial is good or bad.

Hahaha...this is one of those things that are a "given" on TT. The life expectancy of the original topic of any thread is usually 20 posts long
After that...it's either about "longcat", "i r serious cat", Antoine, Antoine's leg, "branle" [which is the most disturbing], if Andy Le Mexican and Andy Le Terrible are the same person, who Skilzat is going to ban next, SPARTAA!!!, or how much Joe Eigo owns [sarcasm] , or how gay Bruce Lee is :eh:

Just learn from the examples of FAILED tricking websites. Sites like tricksession.com and trickerz.com. What were they? Just attempts to try to get on the scene. They tried to do everything and thus ended up being miserable failures.
But now, let's look at a website like http://www.aeriformmat.com/. What does it do? It accomplishes a specific purpose, very uniquely too. Dan Perez has used his knowledge for very thorough explanation of techniques which isn't quite mainstream. It is unique.
Or how about, http://www.dogentricks.com/. It may be highly tutorial and information based, but it covers unique topics and is provides much information that is actually pretty helpful. Information that makes you go "oh, let's try this!"
Etc etc.
so like on the new forum everyone will probably wanna throw their tutorials and examplers on..but not everyone is good.
Extremely massively correct.

I like this idea. I first joined club540 and it was pretty much dead even then. It took about a month to get a reply (and even then, the chances of a reply was slim). Then some of us considered moving here.
I liked club540, it was just too "dusty". And the idea of teaming up with loopkicks offers something good and new. Good luck i say :good:

I`m happy to see club540 is getting back on its feet.
I suggest you don`t put up a forum, cause TT already has one.
As said by Skilz, just accomplish a specific task. A GOOD tricktionary is nowhere to be found on the net, except for Kyukodo, but even there you hardly see the examples. Plus you cant slow mo the moves or analyze them. A slow mo thingie on the tricktionary would own.

I'd say take the hand form tuts :good:. You don't need to put them next into tricks section, just put them for themselves. The reason why I wont you to have it is because, there's nowhere else to find them on the web and I'm sure there's a lot of ppl who probably want to learn them (like me). I've tried searching the web for hand forms but I never found anything...and the thought of joining a dojo just to learn hand forms isn't really appealing
Besides that I think it will be an awesome site...

Ridge Hand
Elbow
DRAGONS CLAW RAWWWR!!!

it would just be so much stupid stuff... having videos of forms is enough... and maybe even a small tutorial on how hands should be done... but not a fucking Hand Combo dictionary...

well alot of tricksters wanna do sport karate but have no idea where to go or how to start...it doesn't have to be too in depth. But their was some uk site that had good suggestions for beginners and what to look at in forms when thinking of hands and understanding how a form works.
they had like a one page thing where they had links to some suggestions for beginner, intermediate and advance hands and kick combos. It doesn't have too be too big just something if your interested in sport karate to get you started.

As much as I love watching hand cominations...I dunno if this is a good idea. Like Bubba had exclaimed, having a section on how NASKA hands are supposed to be generally performed [stance, 90-degree angle, etc.] is fine; but having actual hand combinations drawn out [?]...no.
If you want that...go to a Team Sideswipe camp.

I don't think any site needs to have hand combo how-to's.. not to diss on anybody but I don't see how any hand technique could be considered complicated enough for a how-to.

They are! They don't seem like much, but they'll get you tired as hell. It takes more energy to do a "8-hit hand combination" [that is good] than it does to do a C9 > hook > Jacknife  It's no joke [and there's more to it than it seems]!
When you see forms...it is the "hands" that make the competitors tire the most out of everything.

Just to clear stuff up, I didn`t mean hand forms as explanations of what to use.
I meant traditional Tiger Claw or Crane or Kata`s that we could practice.

see your assumption is they even got that far. im talking about people who are real beginners and haven't even made it that far. just cuz you take martial arts does not gurentee you, you understand how open forms work. my old tkd school tried to convince me to not compete like it was the black plague, when i was there i knew nothing of how open forms worked..how open hands and such worked. i just kept hoping to find an xma school..yes the mike chat ones to help me out. i was gonna join one originally til ds open his school.

Sorry to change subjects but I want to implement a feature where people can add "places to trick" - parks, beaches, gymnastics schools, someone's backyard, a karate school...whatever.
My initial thought is that we'd add these "places" to the database which would each have assigned coordinates like each user will, and then you could see all the "places to trick" within, say 20 miles.
Then when we add events to the calendar, like gatherings and whatnot, we could link it up with one of the "places".
So for example, say you register on the site - you select your home town and create your account - then you view the list of nearby tricking spots within 20 miles of you, select all the ones you currently trick at, add one or two spots to the list if they're not in there, and then when someone clicks on say "Golden Gate Gymnastics", they could see all the members who trick there, as well as any scheduled gatherings and events that will be held there in the near future.
I can't stress enough the fact that this will only work if people participate in the management of these places - there's no way in hell I'm gonna know about even 0.1% of the places you guys trick at. Can you fathom someone in Berlin, GM knowing about your local park in Florida, USA where 5 -10 of you guys get together every week and bust gainers? Of course not - which is why it'll be up to the people who trick at these places to add the places to the list, and make sure no duplicates exist, etc.
Thoughts?

This thread seems to have gone off topic again. It is really all about Dave Hill.
So who votes Dave Hill gets banned (again) for disagreeing with Sean Cannon's definitions of tricks *and* for telling people over the age of 30 to hurry up getting out out the foam pit *and* for not being able to cork *and* for living on TT without paying any rent *and* for tricking so much like Juji that people (well one person actually) calls him Jujimufu at the gym.
And we don't need tutorials on Club540 about hand technique. All of us know how to do *that* perfectly well thank you very much.
Seriously, some of the posts in this thread actually belong in the martial arts forum. Only the ones about Dave Hill (aka Shengoikee) actually matter.

yeah it could work with Google maps, but I wonder who will program and do all that shit on this site. I am not sure that it is a good idea to plan that big at first if you are not a lots of programmers to run this! The best ideas are the tricktionnary and the youtube shit. You could also ask Juji to put a link button on one of the side of the top on the forum pages so that we can have fast access. Forget the hands form for now, and maybe think about it later. It's not that important to have this first. What people really need is a place where we can share together videos and comments on it! It will be easier that way than to look on every pages on the forums to navigate in there (you need a search videos thing). Try to get the best martial artists vids and active on your site, that way you will have more people coming on. I wish that you can beat the ass of Bilang with this new site. I really don't like Bilang, but it's the easiest way to get the goods vids.

Nah, there's a perfectly ordinary explanation for the IP thing. Last year one of Shengoikee's flatmates moved out and I moved to Coventry from Australia. I ended up taking his flatmates place, so we actually even live in the same building.
It's cool living in the same place as another trickster. We also both know pete_man_man, who goes to the same gym. The only problem is we are all at different levels of tricking. I can 720, Dave can 1080 and Pete can double ABC.
Now that I think about it, Skilzat should ban Pete for being too good. This thread should be a poll:

I had a long discussion with Dan Perez de Tejada last night about how I'm going to build the Tricktionary structure, and there are a couple features I wanted to share cuz I had dreams about them they're so cool.
As far as data-entry goes, this is really redundant, but it has to be this way as of now:
We first enter ALL the tricks into the system as individual tricks (you'll see why in a sec). Then we go back through the list and for each trick we will be able to select multiple "influences" (this is why they all have to be entered- cant select an influence if its not yet in the system). A variation of a trick is created by influence. Example - a sideswipe is influenced by a raiz and a 540..without these two tricks, there's no foundation for the sideswipe, make sense? By doing this we'll be able to build a heirarchy for each trick, and the system will be able to track each trick back to its basic root element. Example - the system will be able to track the primary root of a switch kick double all the way to a standing back tuck.
After we select those influences, we'll then be able to select "pre-chain" and "post-chain" tricks (names may change to something like "intro" and "exit" but thats not important.) Basically, for each trick, we'll be able to hand select all the feasable tricks that flow into said trick, and then all the tricks that are feasable to attempt immediately following said trick. Example - take the 720 hook. PRE-chain tricks would be tricks that I JUST did that would allow me to now do a 720 hook without killing my flow: 360 hook, illusion, double leg, etc. Then i can select all the POST-chain tricks that are feasable to attempt immediately AFTER a 720 hook: another 720 hook, 1080 hook, 720 double, double leg, etc.
Once all those tricks are linked up in the system, we'll be able to provide the sickest random combo-generator ever. The system is going to assume ambidexetrousity so you guys aren't gonna be able to slack on "best-leg" combos, and I'm hoping to integrate a difficulty for each trick as well as the "chain difficulty" for each linked trick. For example, I think a 1080 is MUCH harder to execute standing vs immediately following a 360 hook, so say the trick would get a difficulty of say (just for the sake of making a point here..not an actual rating) 6/10, but as a link following a 360, it'd be a 5/10.
I'd like to hear your thoughts and ideas on this before I develop the database table structure and write any code. I know Sessh covered some similar ideas in his articles, and I really don't want to reinvent any wheels here. I'll hopefully be chatting with him later today and we can all get on the same page.

Sounded quiiiite good in terms of the tricks, that's in fact how I have my website set up.
However the random combo-generator is sort of uhhh...frivolous. If you throw together random tricks, the chances of throwing together coherent combos are quite slim. It'd be sorta useless, anyone who would have to use it would probably not be at the skill to do most of the tricks it would suggest, and if someone did know most of the tricks it'd suggest, they're probably experienced enough already to think of their own stuff.
More than that, the system assuming "ambidexterity" is useless for combos. Why? Because ambidexterity is somewhat useless for continuous combos, doing everything in the SAME direction is what's important. If you just have the combo generator choose single tricks, I'm sure they're not going to be "cw this" and "cw that" and "ccw this" and stuff. You don't need to be ambidextrous worth crap, everyone knows that. You just need to be doing everything in the same way for the combos to make sense. There are very few people who can smoothly switch direction in combos, and even then they only have a narrow amount of transitions that they can use to switch smoothly.
AlienWebguy
Oct-09-07, 10:16 AM
Yea thats the point of dictiating the pre-chain and post-chain tricks, so the system doesn't have to think about cw this and cw that.
Example - someone who only kicks with their right leg would spin ccw on their 540 and cw on their 360 hook. An ambidextrous kicker would be able to spin ccw on their 540 and then ccw on their 360 hook (left leg kick). The point of ambedextrousity is for the kicks, not for the spins. It'll help keep the flow of momentum.
By implementing the difficulty system, the users will be able to generate combos from extremly simple 3 hit combos to retarded 15 hit impossible combos.. it'll be up to them, but the combos themselves will be random, as in the odds of it generating the same combo twice are slim.
We could even go so far as to have a combo of the month, where I'll generate random combos until one looks frightening, and then display that combo on the home page as a contest, and the first person to execute said combo on video gets like $50 or a shirt or something.

Hmmm? Ahh I see. I think it would be foolish for someone to only kick with their right leg though, in fact, I don't think anyone does!
Maybe someone can do everything in the direction to the right. As in, I kick outside with my right and inside with my left. I don't think anyone only kicks with one leg. :dead:
It's not assuming ambidexterity, cause if that was the case it'd make me ambidextrous! But I'm not! Ambidexterity is about directions of rotation, cw vs ccw, not being able to kick with both legs in the same direction or whatever.
Ahhh, semantics. :punched:

Sean, the tricktionary is one of the best features of the old Club540. I certainly use it. I'd really like to see one where there were a few different examples of each trick, especially where there are fairly different styles for the same trick. And having loopkicks or whoever write the definitions would definitely be helpful.
The combo generator is an awesome idea, but I think it would work better if instead of putting tricks B that are theoretically exit moves for trick A, you should only put moves in that are undisputed exit moves *and* also ones where someone has submitted a video to show that it is actually possible. Otherwise there could just be lots of arguments about what should be in there.
The part I like the best though is having each trick listed along with its influences. It's not just that I'd like to know what tricks A might be helpful to get first to help me learn trick B, but once I have trick B, what tricks C might be worth trying as they are essentially extensions of trick B. With the current tricktionary all you can really do is click on tricks with similar sounding names and hope that you get a hit.
Looks like you got yourself some serious relational database programming to do. :good: It's great that you just volunteer to do all that work.

I was working on doing this as well, but my version was gonna be done the long and very time consuming way [hand drawn, "family tree" type diagram]. I think this would be a great idea.
As far as the combo generator, I dunno if that is such of a good idea. It would kinda lessen the creativeness of some things if we had something that was constantly shelling out combination possibilities. It's one thing to list what moves link with other moves...it's another thing to make combination ideas available to those who do not have the creativity to think of them on their own.
In my opinion [which is harsh], if you cannot come up with your own stuff...you shouldn't be tricking.
Ambitrixterous
Oct-09-07, 06:28 PM
My input: the pre/post chain tricks =good idea, and after reading Sessh's post should probably stand in place of the combo generator. This would also eliminate any debate over amidexterity of tricks which I personally like, but is unreal to assume any significant population of trickers keeps up with that. *which by the way Sean came up with that idea himself! haha*
as far as the order entry of things, I think the way he's mentioned here seems logical!

About how many files would you say this 50,000 lines is dispersed amongst?

Object oriented PHP is extremely verbose. I'm sure once I start getting around the 60-70% marker it'll turn around and I'll be able to reuse objects like crazy, but right now I'm still coding class files and those things get insane - 1200+ lines and shit.
50,000 is just the number I use instead of saying "a lot of code".. anything more than 10,000 is 50,000, so don't take me literally :)
Once it's done I'll let you know if you're curious, but seriously the size and functionality of this site is just epic - its like one crazy module after another.

I never bothered to learn OOP until I got into Actionscript, then OOP PHP made sense to me. Small projects I still code procedurally cuz it's overkill and less profitable for me to use the object model, but for major sites, OOP is the way to go, hands down.
For example, here's the entire user registry page (the one which I included the screen cap):
<?php
/** CONFIG ************************************************** *****************/

Having those class files pre-coded makes that page really streamlined. If I was to code that page procedurally it'd probably be up around 500-600 lines of code instead of 100.

Ahhh very nice. Such organized coding haha. I'm not sure when I'm gonna start studying OOP. I don't need it right now aaand hmm I'm not sure when I'll be taking the class for it at my campus, or if they even have one for it.Stinks I have to take all these basic programming classes before I get into anything that I don't really know. If I get a bunch of spare time and feel like fixing up some website I'll probably look into it more haha.
Thanks for sharing. :juji:

Dude I feel you. I studied E-commerce at college and they didn't even mention PHP - I had to self-study that language to where I am now, and guess what? I don't even use any of the shit they tried to convince us was good. We learned ASP on MS Access... they didn't even teach us on SQL Server. Then we learned VB, C++, JSP, Java, and a bunch of generals. How the shit is any of that going to prepare someone for E-commerce?
College = teh suck.

Update -
I need some people to hit me up on AIM at AlienWebguy to help me beta test.
Basically, you'll be logging in with your club540.net account, and adding your videos onto the site. The site works by linking up with youtube so there's no uploading to club540 anymore. Adding a single-trick video takes like 10 seconds. It gets sorta time-consuming with samplers and forms cuz the site lets you select all the tricks featured in the video, and if your sampler has 40 unique tricks in it, then the first couple submissions might take a few minutes - but hey I figure it's still 10x faster than waiting 20 minutes for a 50mb sampler to upload, cuz it's already uploaded, right?
I want you to load as many as you can, and in the process I need feedback from you guys as to what I can do to make the video-adding process easier, faster, less-confusing, more-automated, etc..
I need to be on AIM with you while you're loading your shiz cuz I have the site on an IP filter while I'm building it and I'll need to give you access individually.
The site is really coming along. I can't wait till it's launched cuz it's so much nicer than v3.

Ok guys the site is ALMOST DONE!
I have 2 major modules left to complete, and then I just need to code the search functionality.
The 2 modules left to code are the "Trick places" module and the "Teams" module. For the trick places, you can browse back through this thread as it was discussed in some detail earlier. As for the teams, here's how it's planned:
The site shares the friends feature from Club540.net (similar to myspace friends). If a team has not yet been created (acknowledged by the site), and you are a member of the team, you can "Create a new team" and then populate the details such as the team name, bio/history, and upload the logo. Once that's entered, you can select which of your "friends" are members of the team - this is real life stuff, no fake virtual teams here, so for example Chris Dee would most likely be the one to create Loopkicks and then add Balualua, Anis, Prodigy, etc.
Once all the team members (the ones which have accounts at that time and are in your friends list) are selected, the site will ask you to pick the team captains from the newly created list of team members. Whether or not your team has captains is irrelevant here because as the site is concerned, a captain will have the ability to add/remove team members, post team news, submit team videos, and schedule events on the team calendar. You can have one captain or all of your members can be captains - it's up to you how convenient or secure you want your team account to be.
Since I mentioned team videos, a quick explanation of that is when you submit a video to the site, if you are a captain, it'll have a little checkbox which reads "this is a team-specific video". If you check it, the video will be visible from the team page, AS WELL AS your profile page. So if you spent 12 hours making a wicked cool sampler for your team, you'll still get credit for it (or at least for submitting it) but it'll be team-acknowledged. The main point of this is because to me it makes more sense to find all the Loopkicks camp samplers on the Loopkicks team page and not just Devera's profile page.
Feedback is always welcome.

P.S. It should be noted that the code is almost done, and that the tricktionary is still in dire need of content *cough *cough

Wow that list is bigger than I realized. It should be noted that there are more tricks so far that have videos than do not, so this list is less than half of the total tricktionary.

Hey guys take this opportunity to start loading in all the tricking spots near you on the map! It's really easy - just login, click Account, then click Add a Tricking Spot. It'll ask you for an address, either enter the exact address (if its a gym or dojo) or a nearby address (if it's like a park or open field or something) and the map will zoom in on that location, then drag the marker to the exact spot, name it and add a little bit of detail about the spot like how much open gym is, the hours it's open, or if it's a park when the best days to go are, etc.
EVERYBODY has to participate in this if it's going to be even the least bit convenient as a tool!
Mucho appreciato!

Just letting you guys know I've been spending all my time studying for ACSM this past week and will most likely be doing the same thing next week, hence the lack of Club540 updates. I'll get some code written this weekend but then it's back to the books on Monday.
I had a chat with Tejada last week and I need to rebuild the Tricktionary infrastructure. It's currently too complex for its own good and since I built it around Sessh's T10X model, and since he left out a ton of shit, it's completely broken. I had a dream about how I'm gonna do it (I solve most of my coding problems while I sleep....oh how I'd rather be dreaming about naked chicks), and it's a pretty easy fix so we'll see how it goes.
Sweet man gonna be great when its done.

Have you setup your club540.com/v4 account yet? If not, go to www.club540.com/v4/beta
I only ask because most of the stuff you listed is already implemented, except I'm not going to allow members to "design" their own pages and ruin the site's aesthetics like myspace
I really think the coolest feature on the site is the map. You can see trickers who live near you, all the tricking spots in your area (if some are missing you can personally add them), all the major upcoming events in your area (like tournaments, etc - linked with the main calendar), all of your team's upcoming events (linked with your team's calendar)... I dunno when I take an hour or so to play with the site and look for bugs, I find that 45 minutes of my time is spent on that map. It's like the club540.net map to the ultimate power.

Ok so since I'm gonna be completely whiping club540.com v3 off my server, I thought I'd open up the video folder and have a free-for-all download for anyone who wants to archive some classic videos.
I imagine this is gonna kill my server so it's only gonna be available while my resources permit, and then they're BELETED!!!
http://www.club540.com/userVideos/
I think there's something like 7500 videos in there (some were deleted from the site but not from the server) - it's like 13 GB give or take.
oh god there's to much of me for me to download. hahhahaa
Hey sean, is it possible to subdivide or sort Australian Tricksters by states as well?
Like for the American tricksters u got the states there. Can we have it so you add like "VIC, NSW, QLD, WA, NT, ACT" to the locations?

Yep - these are the regions I have for Australia:
Australia (general)
Australian Capital Territory
New South Wales
Northern Territory
Queensland
South Australia
Tasmania
Victoria
Western Australia
Is that all of em? I don't have them in abbreviated format so they'd probably need to go on the profile page or else if they're on the registry page they'll need to be like half the font size.
yeah, and if you can add that in here somehow:
Nickname Real Name Home Town
AU Gender User portrait 1072 Scotty S. Albany Creek, AU
AU Gender User portrait AARON Aaron L. Melbourne, AU
AU Gender User portrait ABE Abraham B. Gosford, AU
AU Gender User portrait ABSOLUTDAN Daniel D. Melbourne, AU

International regions have been added to the registry page. Raven, go here and make sure you're logged in so you can see the distance each of these users is from you and let me know if it's on key.

when is this expected to be up and running 100%?
Question of the year haha. Well I just built a forum and now it's working, but I wanna add some bells and whistles and some admin functions to it - when that's done, I have to fix the tricktionary datastructure, fill in the gaps, find some videos, and then re-code the trick scoring system. I think once that's done, we'll be good to go. At least good enough to go live to the masses. This month I'm gonna be studying hard again for ACSM cuz my test is early June, so my code time is cut in half or so- I'll probably make up for it on the weekends.
I appreciate you guys being antsy cuz it makes me feel that my time invested is gonna be justified, but just remember this is all hand-coded so it just takes time.

OK IMPORTANT QUESTION:
Youtube released some new API's in March and we have an option here. Would you prefer to upload vids to your Youtube account THROUGH Club540.com, or would you rather upload vids to your Youtube account on Youtube.com, and then simply paste the video id into Club540 at a later date?
I have not played around with this new API but either option will display the same result in the end, which is viewing the embedded youtube video on club540.com.

Ok so I built a forum module and it's working for me so far. Please go ahead and post some messages in there and let me know if something's not working or something should be changed/added. I tried to model it somewhat after VBulletin, but I didn't implement everything yet, and some shit I just refuse to code...VB is bloated and slow for a reason.
I do plan on adding the search feature when I code the rest of the site's search functionality.
Anyway I need some activity in there so I can finish coding the moderator functionality:
http://www.club540.com/v4/beta
Login and then click Forums.
Thanks again for your help guys. The site will be up soon enough~

Sean the verification email for my account is taking a while to be sent, anyway to speed that up?
AlienWebguy
May-22-08, 08:22 PM
The verification email should have been sent immediately. Check your junk/spam folder. If it's not in there, try to login to the site and it'll automatically send you another email. If you're not getting any of them, email me directly at webmaster@club540.com and I'll manually approve you.

Great site! The only thing I don't like is constantly having to be reapproved by a moderator just to change something on your profile.
Oh shut up Dave Hill you can't even cork.
EDIT: Oh you should listen to me cause not only do I know lots of crap about tricks (as the other mods, and Sesshoumaru, who will probably be a mod soon), but also I know lots of crap about making websites too. But then again, so do you Sean .

the tricktionary is a great feature of club 540 and i use it daily it would be great if we could send you video examples of the moves your missing as i wouldnt mind searching through videos and editing out specific tricks that you need (good quality obveously) ie arashiswipe, flare, flik flak, scissorswipe and so forth.
if you need this done i would happily supply the video examples you need :)

Great site! The only thing I don't like is constantly having to be reapproved by a moderator just to change something on your profile.
Version 3 was overrun with non-tricker shit accounts and crappity crap crap.
I personally login every day and check the pending-member queue and approve or reject accounts based on the content provided. You'd be amazed at how many people just want an account without any intention whatsoever of helping the tricking community. Since nobody pays me for Club540 and since I host it on my server, weeding out the dickweeds who want to spam it is the least I can do to ensure you trickers are surrounded by people who made the effort to be on the site in the first place.
I guess my justification is you'd probably be more pissed if there were 100 people within 5 miles of you on the map and 3 or 4 of them were actual trickers with legit info :eh:

Also, I'm aware that the forum is wicked slow. I'm thinking I need to tweak my SQL joins or implement some caching, but I couldn't really know ahead of time how much load the forum would require with some actual traffic and usage when I built it. The bad news is I'm all tied up in getting Martial Kinesis up and running and all other code and shit has to be put on hold for a few weeks at least.

Yea feel free to bring that up with Sessh and Dan Perez cuz they both said they'd populate that thing. After all the instances of "club540 sucks and sean shouldn't be describing tricks cuz he's not even a tricker", I said fuck it the trickers can populate the tricktionary and I'll just code the infrastructure to make it happen heh.

Right ive checked the whole tricktionary there are 87 tricks that need videos and quite a few without a description. I will use all my power, wit (haha lol) and persuation to get all the videos that are missing. Also some of the descriptions arnt that accurate, so with the videos i will also send you a word document with the description for them (dont worry i wont make it a jumble it should be an easy cut and paste job).
also i have another propertion for you
In your dream you wanted the abbilty to have all the starters and ending to a trick, so trickers would have the abbilty to know what tricks linked smoothly and so forth (i thorght would be quite usefull) well if you would like, i will try my best to write on each trick the inputs, so an example would be (gainer) INPUTS ie s/t, scoot ...... and OUTPUTS s/t , pop , step out..... stuff like that :)

There are currently 3 mods other than me and none of them do anything. I don't think they've even logged in since the beta testing went public..maybe one of them.
Anyway yea all vids will be considered. I have to convert and crop the videos anyway so don't worry about the formatting.

I think I could make a good mod too because I do have experience on other forums but I have no idea on how much time I would spend moderating a forum at the moment.
