If you go to gymnastics then you will learn gymnastics, I think that is somewhat obvious.

backflip and fulltwist, that's basically all you should want from gymnastics for tricking

You seem to forget that a gymnastics butterfly full is a btwist.
OK best advice I can give you (you are gona save oooh so much money this way). I wasted about £50 I can't rearly remember the exact price but it was around that. On gymnastic lessons I had quite a lot once a week. I learned nothing. Now i'm only speaking from my own experiance from here so, this could not be acurate about anywhere else but i'm guessing it's similar. They wouldn't let me do even backflips, and I was very eger to learn. They insisted I learn to perfect cartwheel, round off, front hand spring ect. That was Gymnastics, however if you go to a tumbleing class they will teach you better things for tricking.
OK a couple of months after that an old friend invited me down to this open gym session down in Sheffield. It was something like £10 for 4 hours (It's normaly £6 for 2 hours though) Oh by the way. Just incase you don't know what an "open Gym" is it's a gym that you don't get taught at.
I met loads of tricksters and they all helped me out in what I wanted to learn and the atmosphire was just soo much more exciting and intence than the atmosphire in my gymnastics class.
So my advice to you, find an open gym. It's cheaper, better for tricking, more fun and interesting, you will learn faster.
yeah...gymnastics is gymnastics. if you want to learn flips go learn that. if you want strong basics with kicks take a Martial Art...tricking...well you fall and you learn. there isnt an easy way out to learn how to trick.
and damn...i think the reason why he asked this was because i noticed a looooooooot of samplers as of late has just been fulltwist fulltwist fulltwist fulltwist, btwist? fulltwist double full...bhs bhs bhs btuck...flash? fulltwist fulltwist...yeah i started getting really angry...
man im gonna get flamed...hahahahahaha!
no i have seen a lot of other samplers with a variety of tricks; however, lately a lot of newer people have just been doing gymnastics....no kicks...and everytime i have a glimmer of hope that he will even throw ONE 540...just ONE..or c7, that hope is just crushed....instantly when i see the sampler come to an end...argh.

Remember, Martial Arts Tricking [MAT] isn't a fully recognized sport/activity; therefore, you most likely won't find any place that will teach it. The only person that can teach you how to trick is yourself [ironically].
People can help you, but ultimately, none of their trick related advice is going to be universally helpful [because much of tricking is based on natural affinity], some people kick better than they flip, some twist better than they kick, others are somewhat balanced, while a few can't do much of anything :eh:
MAT = a lot of "trial & error"
If you are afraid to try, then you're not going anywhere in this sport.

gymnastics will condition you lots for tricking. However it would probably be easier to do your own conditioning.

at any rate it wont hurt your tricks and maybe you'll learn proper technique and blocking skills. and you will also have plenty of time to dick around on the floor with gainers and other non traditional gymnsticstricks
Yeah I gave you the down side of Gymnastics. On the upside they do teach you many important factors that can help you're tricking, like COG (Center of Gravity) and Blocking and proper techneque/form. One more plus side they make you do a shit load of conditioning, now I know you can do it by you're self, it's just sometimes it's difficult (for me atleast to get the motivation to get my ass off TT and actualy condition).

the real advantage is when there is no 'open gym'. joining gymnastics is a good alternative way to use the plyo floor for tricking purposes

OOO OOO!!! that's me!!!
I find myself trying to forget every trick i know and just throw my body different ways, wrap during certain tricks etc...so i'm not doing a million things that every one else has already done.
variation hunting has got to be the coolest part of tricking, other than landing a trick or combo you've been praying to land for ages...haha
i did it for a couple months, and it helped my roundoffs a shitload, and i learned bhs which i couldnt do before
also you learn just good gerneral body awareness and strength: swinging around on those p-bars and horse are fucking hard as hell
although you might just be doing tumblng i dunno
id do it if you can
trampoline + 2 flips into foam pit = teh win
