About a couple of months ago I injured my back at TKD. My instructor made us do this exercise where we basically kicked off a punching bag, did a 180 in the air and kicked the bag with our other foot. My instructor expects us to take his training really serious, so I went all out and I ended up messing up my lower back. It didn't hurt that much and I didn't really notice it until a few days ago when I realized I couldn't sit comfortably in a chair, because my lower back would absolutely kill me.

Its been like two months since this happened and I still can't sit comfortably in a chair. What do you guys think I should do? I wouldn't be making this thread if I wasn't desperate. I can't even trick anymore, it just makes my back feel worst and I honestly don't know what to do. I don't really feel like asking my dad to take me to see a doctor because I know he would just make me feel stupid for getting injured in the first place. Be honest with me will this heal by itself in time or is my back gonna be like this forever. please help me...

It probably won't heal itself, especially considering that it has been actually getting worse.

You need to go and see a physiotherapist, who may need to refer you to a back specialist. Who cares what your Dad says, you need to get this sorted or you may be in alot more pain in the future.

actually its quite the contrary. back problems are actually quite common among the population, and the majority of the problems fix themselves. that doesnt mean he doesnt have to worry about it tho.

1. rest, ice, compression, elevation.
-you dont really have a way to keep it compressed or elevated..so just make sure you switch out a cold pack and warm pack every 20 minutes (20 minutes cold..20 minutes off..20 minutes warm..20 minutes off, etc.)
2. 800mg motrin with breakfast, lunch, and dinner
-you could also opt for naproxen..but im not sure if you can get that without prescription
3. stretch LIGHTLY

make sure you dont do anything to harm your back for the next 2 weeks or so AT LEAST. if problems still persist, then go in and see your doctor. more than likely they'll just tell you the same thing..maybe refer you to a chiropracter or something...only difference is they might give you steroid injections if the problem is that bad...which i can pretty much guarantee that its not. ESPECIALLY considering your age

feel better bud. remembe...take 2 weeks off..thats all. in order for it to heal you gotta rest.

edit: i almost forgot. if you start to get numbness/tingling down your right or left leg, it might be a sign of a pinched nerve..inflamed chord, herniated disc...something along those lines..all of which will heal on their own..but still suck to deal with. see if you cant get prescribed pain meds or something. HOWEVER...loss of sensation (completely different than numbness/tingling) is a good sign of nerve damage. if this is the case GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR SO HE CAN REFER YOU TO A NEUROLOGIST

Many males suffer back problems at least once during the course of their lives.

If its been two months, then see someone now. I went to a chiropractor when my back was messed up (mine was thoracic area), and all he did was splurt on about subluxations and stuff. I'd see a physio.

Breaking your neck is a spine injury, but not a back injury.

you do realize your spine goes all the way down your back right?

Yes, but generally when talking about the spine, people divide it into 'neck' (the part above your shoulders) and 'back' (the part below).

its still a spinal injury. and the pain manifested in the lower back, which is why in generally think back injury when i think of it.

For crying out loud the term that is readily used by anyone except rabies infested doctors speaking in latin terms is "broken neck" or "broken back".

Frankinstine, don't start a conversation with Ashtar, it's not good for you.

The problem here is that I said 'this is a spinal injury, not a back injury'. So being told that it is a spinal injury makes no sense. I get what you mean about it manifesting in the back though, in that case it can be called back pain. It's cool that you have tracked its root cause.

But actually reading back you said 'back problems' not 'back injury' so I apologize for misreading that, it was a correct way to phrase. Pain is a problem.

I have heard swimming can help back pain sometimes.

yeah i heard that, its sposed to be awesome for it infact, if your gonna do any exercise at all swimming would probably be the best, your back would be pretty much kept in a straight line, no overly stressed muscles etc

masturbating is much more benificial than swimming.
