Do it with a normal bar. I've never tried that bar but from the looks of it you'll be using your legs more.

That's called a trap bar, I think, even though it's nothing like a trapezoid. It virually eliminated teh difficulties one might have with core strength when using a normal bar.

Yes. That is certainly not a deadlift bar. It is called a trap bar. Supposedly, it was originally designed so that you could do shrugs without scraping the bar across your nuts. And, while you may be lifting the weight from dead on the floor, don't make the mistake that you're performing a real "deadlift." For most people, a trap bar deadlift is more like the concentric of a squat than the concentric of a deadlift. The side loading of the weight (instead of out in front of you) takes a good amount of emphasis off both the posterior chain and the musculature of the back. It's a good supplementary exercise, but it's no replacement for a true and honest barbell deadlift.

I think it's a neat movement. It's an alternative to using dumbbells for filling the void left between deadlifts and hack squats.

Why would you do a deadlift with this, it's like a shitty squat

The 'trap' is shorthand for trapezius not trapezoid, obviously.

Exactly. Comparing with the deadlift with original bar, this oneis more squat-like", with less emphasis on the lower back. However this one would be more safe for rookie deadlifter.

...it was originally designed so that you could do shrugs without scraping the bar across your nuts...

I hate that. The solution is snatch grip.
