View Full Version : Chest problem

I need some help guys.
I'm working out third week now, 6 days per week and it has become quite obvious something isn't right.
This is the workout my coach gave me...
Push ups : 3x10 at begining, I've raised this to 3x18
Sit ups : 30 slow, 3x10 fast, 20 slow
Back : 2x15
Squats : 3x25
3ceps : 3x8
100 jumps with jump rope
And the problem...
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/3829/pectoralissternaleditai5.jpg
in the marked area I have ZERO muscles. It's flat. Skin and bone. It was not that obvious before, because I didn't even have a proper chest. But now it just looks weird.
I've checked for "sunken" or "pigeon" chest and it's far from that. I don't have deformed bones or something. Muscles just aren't there where they should be.
:worry:

1. You weigh to less (muscle mass).
2. You've been working out for 3 weeks.
3. You're doing pushups.
And your muscles are perfectly fine.

what's wrong? you're working out 6 days a week (when you say you started I guess you didn't train a lot before) and mmhm I don't have much muscles there either. just skin and (deformed) bone..
You need more volume to decrease that gap. It's genetical and you are not alone in having it.
Don't worry about it, keep training.

I'm kind of a mesomorph. I have good chest and back muscles and I hold onto them even when I don't lift for a long time. You'll fill out after a good year of training (or less if you eat right).

Yes.
Are you doing any type of bench presses by any chance? From your workout it doesn't seem like this issue would pop up. I think honken was getting at what I'm trying to say...the only chest thing you are doing is pushups and you've only been lifting for 3 weeks so I don't see how it would become that apparant...but then again I might have misread what honken said.

Hey fellas whats the deal with the shape of pecs? I see alot of people where their pecs are sqaure shaped and some where they seem to just be like round, still big but just round. Is that because they havent trained them in all areas or is it because of the way the individuals muscle is shaped? Its pretty confusing to look at, mine are developing round.

More mass on the chest solves this problem. I used to be this skinny as well. You simply need to gain muscular bodyweight all over.

HHHHhhh, I'm tired of people complaining about their chest, "Oh noes, I'm 120 lbs and I started working out yesterday and my pecs don't look good! Like it's all flat and there's no mass around my nipples!"
"Dude! It's genetical" or "You must have the gaps!"
Has it ever occurred to you that you might actually need to gain some strenght and actual mass first before you can distinguish true muscluarity deformities from the usual simply-small-badly-developed-twink-pecs syndrome I suspect most of you suffers from?
Unless you have some photos where you can actually point out something unusual in your chest development you should all just shut the fuck up.

3ceps = triceps
3x8 are triceps dips.
Back exercise (2x15):
You lay on your stomach, extend arms infront of you, hook your legs under something heavy and lift torso up, off the floor and down. Control the movement, you may also pause at the peak of the lift.
Next...
As I've said, I've been working out before, but with weights not bodyweight. Benching, squating, deadlifting, stuff like this. My chest really grown a bit, but mostly on the outer side.
This was before summer. I was working 12 hours a day through summer, plus training archery every day, so I stopped working out and muscle growth slowly stopped (excluding back, shoulders, triceps and core - archery is all about that)
Then, in mid-august, I've got into archatlon. Marvelous sport, fucking demanding and incredibly rewarding. Archery combined with runing, mostly sprinting. Coach gave me this strenght workout, runing workout and some shooting exercises.
Muscles are back in business, chest is growing again. On the outside and middle, naturally. I hope they're growing outside-in, so this shit will be over 'till spring.
And further more...
I'm not training for mass, although maybe I should.
And I don't need or want big chest, on contrary, big chest can be quite a hindrance as the string can whip you (flying nipples :punched:). I just want this hole to be gone, I look like a freak.
I need to be as light as possible and as strong as possible for that weight.
Speed is what I need.
And power.

The only way you're getting rid of the gap is though training and eating for hypertrophy. Chances are it will fill in down the line after you gain 30-50 lbs of muscle.

Wait is that true? I thought a lack of muscle in the upper chest was from focusing on lower pec lifts such as regular bench press too much. And the solution to that is just do stuff like incline bench press.

So let's recap:
If you are gaining weight by about 2kg each month, and you are working out to increase the strength of your pectoral exercises (such as bench press, incline bench press, and some sort of fly) amounting to around 12-15 total sets (not all work sets), then your chest will most likely grow at a normal rate.
Also, how could masturbation cause any adverse effects towards anything unless you blast semen directly into your eyeballs?
I masturbate directly before going to the gym sometimes. It hasn't held me back at all.

Just simplify your diet into a list of key items you can consume every day, and then organize them so that you are consuming 6 protein based meals every day without fail, and coming out to around 3500 calories and 300 grams of protein at least.
Here is a sample:
1) bowl of cereal and milk, followed by a protein drink (milk+60grams of whey+olive oil)
2) 1lb of pasta with with chicken + glass of milk
3) protein drink (orange juice+60g whey)
Lift weights or run.
4) protein drink (OJ with 90g whey)
5) 0.5-1lb beef, sweet potato, veggies +glass of milk
6) 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches +glass of milk.
Just find your key dietary items and organize them! (beef, chicken, pasta, peanut butter, bread, milk). Prepare your meals ahead of time by cooking pasta and meats in bulk and storing them.
It's not difficult friend. It just takes some manning up and a little bit of effort and planning.

peanut butter and olive oil are both calorie dense, cheap, and availble to add to most any dish.
PB&J rocks, especially with high fiber bread and no-sugar jelly...
And I cook all of my meats and pastas in olive oil, and adding a tablespoon or two to your protein drinks will add 100s of calories to it and you wont even taste it.
Just don't put olive oil in your post workout shake. haha

Nov-15-07, 03:30 PM
Because after a workout your muscles need protein to rebuild themselves, and consuming carbohydrates with that protein will spike your insulin, the hormone responsible for shuffeling nutrients to where they belong. The muscles dont need any fat, however, so some believe that consuming fat (which is all olive oil is..) with your post workout drink will cause either bodyfat gains (if done repeatedly over time), or just give you unpleasant mud shits, as is my experience. haha

Dang insulin, you want it for the nutrient shipping, yet fear the diabeetus. Muscle cells do contain some fat, I mean all cells do, the phospholipid membranes and all, so you will need SOME, it's just not a major need as compared to needing to refuel energy or get proteins.

Which is why you eat a solid meal after your protein drink, once your glycogen has been restored.

I reckon the reason why fat shouldn't be ingested post workout is because it slows down the emptying of your stomach. This affects recovery times since your carbs with ridiculously high GI just got slowed down to a crawl thanks to the fat. Add the fact that it gives you the runs and it gives a good indicator to stay away from it.

Dude, fuggin...
Do this:
-Intake lots of protein. (Ex. Add a protein shake or two to your day. Have two+ servings of meat at every meal, rather than one)
-Drink lots of water, until your piss is clear. Maintain clear pissageness.
-Incline bench / close-grip 3x10-15 / 60% / (for upper-INNER pex)
-Decline bench / close-grip 3x10-15 / 60% / (for lower-INNER pex)
-Hyper dumbell flies (Extend arms WAY out instead of the normal "draw a circle" technique. This will stretch inner pec muscles, tearing them, which is what you want.)
-If you do pushups, the closer your hands, the more you'll work inner pex.
-During said workouts, try to concentrate on feeling that area work, and try to flex it during the contraction, even if there's nothing to flex yet.
Guaranteed inner-boobage growth.

I stand corrected, it was pointed out. I could care less about kudos. I'm giving advice from personal experience.

Ahh. Now I remember why TT forums are a joke. Assmen like you sit at their computers all day waiting to pounce on any grammatical error or tiny flaw or difference of opinion in what someone has to say.
Go ahead and word your reply to spite me, but I won't be back to check this shit.

Now this is funny for two reasons.
1) Because he actually believes I am making fun of him for a grammatical error.
and (2) It is obvious that he will come back and read whatever I respond with.

Mr Popular your quest for putting everyone down who doesn't want to bulk or who's priority isn't to gain size is old and pathetic.

Mr. Popular has actually been quite helpful and understanding lately. I've been taken aback and astounded that some of his advice has actually been useful. I applaud his effort, as it must have taken many hours of therapy to achieve the small degree of empathy and consideration that he has exhibited.

Haha.
I agree, he has definitely changed his tune lately. Not so much that he won't lay down some abuse when necessary, but that's an important role on these forums.

And you don't have to wear a dirty smelly hat and plastic gloves and make sandwiches.

Too bad I likely will be getting neither for a little while. My girlfriend just went completely psychobitch on me.
She's currently weeping in her car outside in 30 degree weather on top of a giant stuffed moose i bought her.
This whole situation is about 10x more fucked up than I'm willing to say over the internet, but suffice it to say..
I need a new person to rub my back and please me sexually. This one is broken.

That was pretty emo. Tell your girlfriend to be more of a man -- that solves 98% of women troubles.

Haha.
It may be my lack of any meaningful interaction with the opposite sex, but I fail to see how these situations always arise.
