View Full Version : ACL shitfuck.

I fucked up a bit on an Atwist and more or less injuried my knee.
I've confirmed it as an ACL injury, and by reading the mainpage seeing it was quite common I was wondering if you guys had any tips on how to restore it.
I did go see a doctor who said that it would heal within time - but I'm impatient.
So, any tips on how to boost the healing process in any way?
Would it be smart to invest in a knee-support thingy, etc?
I have a gathering coming up in two weeks and I'd really like to attend.
I got injured ~two weeks ago, so that would be a month of cooling on it at least.
And last, should I avoid the gym? I don't train my legs ofc with this (currently) shitty knee, but should I avoid even training at all? Still training the upper body can put some stress on the legs as well (from what I feel), carrying weights, doing standing stuff and so on...
Blargh, never trick in a fatigued state!
Your doctor would have said if there was anything to speed the process. Don't be an idiot, rest it. Gathering coming up or not, if you're not healed you won't trick. Your body won't give a rat's ass what you think or if you are impatient, it won't heal faster.
Knee supports will only remove or (most likely) ease the symptoms, it won't heal your injury and if you keep on going like you normally would, your knee will be in deep shit.
I reckon you could work out your upper body as long as you don't put any strain on your knee. Favour sitting and lying exercises above standing.
REST! That is an order!

Well then, to anyone who had this crap: How long did it take to heal?

ACL's take a long time to heal because they are a ligament. I'd expect you will be out for quite a while. Also, I wouldn't do anything daring on it because if you mess it up even more you're asking for surgery (which is weird because you don't need it already). Have you tried the anterior drawer test? It probably wont work though, your ACL might only have a slight tear judging by how your doctor reacted.
Actually, don't try the drawer test because you'll probably mess up your ACL even more. Get a qualified individual to do that haha. Go see a physio as well, instead of your GP.

REST!!!!!!! It doesnt help...and it isnt as bad an injury...if you take care of it...its fairly easy to bounce back from this...BUT give it 2 months and REHAB alot.

What a cockfest this turned out to be. ~2 months? Damn :dead:
Oh yea, I work at a local industry - and most of the time I'm standing shoveling windows and huge doors on and off stuff. Puts some stress on my legs but I don't know.. should I chill at work maybe? I do have a co-worker that can take care of the more heavy stuff and so on, so yea, maybe..
:ouch:

Crazykorean is not a doctor, I wouldnt take his advice on how long this is going to take to heal.
If I were you I would take it easy at work as well.

Haha, yes ofc I do not swallow just any info that spurts around.
But it gave me a picture. And I guess I'll chill at work with my knee as excuse.

I tried to get to an orthopedist about my knee but damn, first I need a local hospital approval that I really need to see one and then the waiting time is 4-6 fucking weeks.
What the feck should I do?
I did the Lachman test with a friend and well, there were some difference with my left knee compared to my right one. As in, my shinbone felt more floaty at the connection to the knee.
I ain't a doctor myself, but if something wasn't torn (acl presumably), wouldn't it have healed quite a bit in three to four weeks? It is better than in the beginning ofc, there I had actual pain shooting down my knee to the tibia. That has gone away and atm it feels stiff and fragile - just no pain.
I take it the ACL gives most support when the knee is fully extended, right? And the PCL when it's not. So if that's true (please prove me wrong), I can take an example; When I'm walking upstairs I have no problem with my knee really since it's the plc that gives me most support, but when walking downstairs putting weight on a nearly fully extended knee it feels wrong - that my knee doesn't like it at all. And from that I get the feeling that my acl may even be torn.
The strange thing is, at the session in which I got injured, my knee did neither make a popping sound, swell or any other symptoms that I've had described to me. I even continued the session for ~30 minutes. My knee didn't feel like anything special, kind of like the usual bail damage - just some bruises and such. Although it was the two following days I really felt it coming.
Main thing I'd like to know; Is anything torn or just stressed/whatever?
I can't trick, go to the gym properly and so on with most activities.
I feel kind of worthless to myself and those around me. So yea, I'm quite the sad and angry man at this time.
Although I have got some good replies already, I still cry out for help :dead: I may be worrying too much in some eyes but this bothers me a lot.
Being an amateur at this I still reckon a torn ACL would leave you screaming on the ground.

You'd be better to be pessimistic about it. If you're going to misdiagnose, make sure you do it in the 'worse injury' direction. Then you don't risk treating it the wrong way.
Having said that, try to be happy! Being impatient and annoyed about it isn't going to help the healing process.
Enjoy the rest!
Cheer up!!!
