hello

Can anybody suggest a decent warm up for someone who cant run anymore due to sore heels and knees due to injury?

I do a lot of rowing but is this really getting my legs warm for stretching?

I am very stiff and I dont seem to be getting anywhere at the moment and the only thing I can think of is that my warm up is not good enough.

Thanks

My warm up consists of actually stretching but a tad bit lightly. I dont warm up much though to be honest. It has worked for 2 years haha

I usually run around for a bit, then do some leg swings & dynamic stretching, then some very light static stretching, and then some more dynamic stretching. Works well for me.

Well actually, you don't need to warm up if you are using the relax stretching. Just stretch and RELAX to get to your max range of motion, it doesn't have to be painfull.

Jog on the balls of your feet? Or skipping or something maybe.

You don't really need one anyway - light joint rotations then dynamic stretches is fine.

1. warm up muscles (doing basic tricks gainer/cork/tornado/jump cresent etc)
2.stretch out
3.do some kicks (540/c7/c9)
4.easy combo you have down
5.TRICK OUT

One low-impact warmup is cycling. Depending on the severity of your knee and foot problems, cycling could work just fine.

Another low-impact warmup could be some swimming if you have access to a pool. On the topic of water, I've heard that using a hot tub for several minutes can help loosen your muscles as well and make you more flexible, though I have not tested this.

Also as someone else said, you don't really need to warm up to do static stretches. Although I believe that being warmed-up may maximize the stretch.

If your knees hurt then why are you going out tricking anyway? Instead of worrying about warming up you should be worrying about the further damage that the high impact from tricking would do to you.

Just do basic kicks for a bit, they get u warm really quickly.
Stretching before exercise is proven to have no advantageous affects and no signs of reducing the chance of injury, only stretching after exercise actually improved flexibility

erm i didnt actually say that i was tricking. i posted this thread in the stretching section of this site.

i am interested in stretching as i practise karate. since i have had a break from training i need to stretch to be safer in the karate class.

if you read tom kurz's book , he suggests warming up the legs and parts of the body that will be stretched, i was just asking what other people did so i can maybe incorporate them into my own routine and to make sure i wasnt doing anything wrong.

but hey, if you can impart some of your knowledge onto me about your warm ups then i would be grateful

It really depends on what means you have available to you. You could try aerobic machines, aerobics, climbing stairs, etc. until you fin something not painful.

Rowing can warm the legs if you do them emphasizing that. I find that hard personally.

When warming up, the first aim is to mobilise the inner parts of all your joints: warming up the synovial fluid, to allow the joints to move more smoothly and hence decrease resistance.

This can be achieved by gentle lunges, gentle swings, plies (bending of the knees) and soft kicks etc. You're looking for gentle movements that begin to slowly losen up the joints, without putting too much strain on your body. They should also get the blood flowing a little.

I do a ballet warm up, which I think is highly effective when I don't have the space to go out for a run. It warms up the smallest muscles of the feet, legs, hips, stomach and every other muscle in the body. A lot of time is spent trying to keep all of your muscles engaged, to keep your balance, and this constant engagement warms them up.

At the gym, I'll do treadmill for 5 minutes, and then a 1000m sprint on the rower. After my workout I'll do leg press as slowly as I can: about 16 reps on a high weightload, and this uses all of the strength in your muscles. When it comes to stretch afterwards, it's piss easy, because your body is wasted, your neuro-muscular control impaired.

Burpees press ups are good for a warm up too: just make sure to rotate your shoulders and swing your arms a couple of times before you get into them.
