I made this for Anerky, since he had asked me for help on a number of different things. However, for the moment, this is all I have. I feel that this guide could not only benefit him, but many people who have just learned the backflip as well.

Keep in mind, however, that if you have trouble hearing what I'm saying, then use headphones. I'm sorry about the noise, but it was the best I could do.

Listen up, and try to apply some of these things to your backflip!

EDIT: Just remember me PULLING THE RAIN DOWN
If you just want to see my backtuck, it's at 4:46.

Thanks sooo much Dan! <3
I will work on all of these this weekend..
the sad part is that I'm not really new to backflips at all, I just never bothered to fix my bad habits

Tho I love you and this was seriously an amazing tutorial, you didn`t do what it said. You jumped and looked back, the only part you really did was open out and stomp the landing high =[

It really bothers me when people say I look back. I really don't. Look at Juji's backflip:
http://trickstutorials.com/images/t_bflip7.jpg
and look at mine. Would you say that I jump back? If so, then Juji looks back too, and I promise you he will defend the same point that I do and assure you that in no way is he looking back.
It's because, in reality, neither of us are looking back. Notice our eyesight. Straight up.

What I am doing is opening my chest and extending my abs out, which allows the knees to come up and over myself, allowing my lower body to get as much power as I can. Everyone is so caught up on the "go up and just use your knees" backflip (for example, like you have, k-slash), that any other way just seems to be "looking back".

If I was jumping back, I would actually get backwards distance. My feet land only about 10-12 inches from my starting place, which truly cannot be helped in most backflips. Backwards rotation is NOT just bringing your knees to your chest, which is what is basically preached like a fad around here. It is an ab extension and crunch as well.

If you watch my backflip, everything I say is actually in practice. What I do differently (as well as people like Juji and others who backflip the same as I do) is that I use my abs and open my chest, therefore creating more rotational power. I learned this from my gymnastics coach, and, quite honestly, it's sad to see the fad that Dovicka started with his backtuck is now "law".

I didn`t mean it liek you jumped and looked back, I meant. You jumped, then looked back, if you get me?

You jumpe dup with your head back.

Yes, juji and you both look backwards.

You don`t spot forwards with your torso stretched up, your body is angled like \ with yoru head/eyes facing the sky.

Thats not what you said to do in your tutorial.

I don't spot forward, because, in reality, it's entirely counter-productive for anything past the backtuck/roundoff backtuck. I specifically say in my tutorial to use your vision to look slightly up, and then stretch the abs to tuck. That split second of looking up for the sky allows your chest and abs to open up.

There is more than one way to do a move. I am teaching my way, and I have chosen to learn this way because the other way is counterproductive for anything past it's base form (tell me, do you use your "stall" method to flashkick? Full? Pike? Layout? Gainer flashes? Gainer full? Arabian? I use my method for all of mine, pulling the abs and opening the chest.), and you sacrifice a lot of power and rotation just to give your move a particular "stall" that even my version of the backtuck has, just with a different torso alignment.

I'm sorry if you don't agree with my explanation of things, but I promise I'm not trying to steer anyone wrong, or say one thing and do another. I'm simply trying to prepare people to clean up their back tuck and help them learn small things that will help them in variations.

So basically what your saying, is on a double backflip, not to keep your body position vertical spotting forwards till just before peaking *stretched* then tucking in and rotating on your way up. That you should actually take off looking up at the sky, letting your chest drop backwards, cutting your set and initiating the first rotation early?

Were not talking about layouts, you look back on them AFTER you set, so yes, you shuold spot forwards on a layout untill you leave the ground. That means, when you fulltwist, you shuold spot forwards. Yes when you gainerflash, you shuold spot forwards to raise your chest before taking off. Yes you should spot forwards on arabians.

And what your saying, is that you don`t think you should do this way, because it`s counter productive for variations (which it isnt). Which means, it`s not counter productive for a regular back tuck.

I know for a fact, that spotting forwards on a standing back is NOT counter productive, neither is it counter productive for double backs or tripples.

Examples:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=-_PHgjQzOVM

I think you will notice on every single tripple back in this video, the gymnasts spot forwards.

I said it was a very good tutorial, I didn`t want an argument.

that was the fucking funniest video I have ever seen. + a sexy backtuck. "Pulling the rain down, WHAT ARE YOU LAUGHING AT? Think about me, pulling the rain down" "for the record that's the cheesiest thing ever" "Shut up *rude finger*" Your tone made it even funnier.
