I can standing cork so fuckin ez, but J-step corks are harder than my dog's red rocket. I'll film an example I guess of my standing cork and J-step cork. Cork from gumbi, scoot, raiz, it's all easier for me than J-step. I hate J-steps more than George Bush hates the darkies. I think I understand em, this tutorial is good but I still don't know why my J-step fails.

Actually here's some trash session but you can see a J-step gainer and standing cork. I'll get a J-step cork this weekend. Pluz halp me Mikez! <3333

exactly.
I cannot j-step corck for shit! :dead:
its easier to boxcutter from as well.
+i only just watched it all the way through with sound.
i like how james says he's comfortable with men haha

I suppose because it just works better for him...Marcel Jones also Double Corks from the "spin-hop/pivot" setup as well.
Everyone talks real big about the "J-step" because of it's efficiency, but the spin-hop is also pretty powerful as well. I can use both when doing Double Corks, and I must attest that it is easier for me to land it from the "spin-hop" than the "J-step" [but this could be because I'm not doing the J-step correctly, and/or I suck at Corks].
Using the "spin-hop" will also make it easier to combo with Double Corks as well, because there is no running or forward momentum needed to throw it. The "spin-hop" uses rotational momentum to power "swinging techniques", so combos like these: 540 > DCORK, HT > DCORK, and HS > DCORK become more probable.
I like the spin hop setup more for combos, obviously...also using jstep for a regular cork seems like a waste of energy. You do not need to have a giant setup for a regular cork...although for some higher level variations it does look better with jstep. I am a fan of the mini jstep though haha. The setup Anis and Flow use =P
Personally most setups worked about the same for me.
Reverse, jstep and hop-spin...
But if I was going to do just a regular cork, I would just either take a quick step into it (mini jstep) or reverse gfull style.
I think the main reason Jaime and Waterboy are more comfortable with hop-spin is that it allows them to get horizontal because they do the old school type corks. They don't resemble a "gainer twist" at all, meaning they don't do a fulltwisting or tabletop like motion.

I think it's actually the other way around. The setup is what determines the angle at which Jaime and Waterboy cork. Jaime does completely inverted corks from raiz, and somewhat of a hybrid from btwists. Jaime can also reverse step cork and it looks like mine.

you guys dont understand how retarded i am when it comes to j step corks
ive had crazy and jester work with me on it, asked simon advice, tried EVERYTHING and i am still retarded with it
spin hop works well for me because it TABLETOPS me for a good landing. i cannot tabletop from spin because i am retarded and cannot initiate a slant gainer b4 twisting
:
This will definitely get me to stop landing on my face in gainers.

the only reason i do the J step is b/c when i first started tricking i was always watching james cork and i just kinda tried to copy him my best.

The "hop-skip" is essential for momentum gaining and timing. You'll notice that everyone with good "pop" tricks will also hop into the setup as well.

Ok, now that I've seen the J-Step motion explained, I'd like to know if anyone can tell me why it works. I prefer to understand how things function before trying it in the field (the literal field).

Ok someone has to explain this spin-hop thing. I suck at j-step as well and I'd like to try something different.
