View Full Version : Flexibility screw up

Ok so, i've been flexible all my life like some other members. I can do splits and all, but theres just one tiny thing that causes a lot of problems. Its that i cant turn my legs inside. I can turn them outside to no end, but i literally cant turn them inside.

Whats the problem? Thigh flexors messing up or something? What causes this? And how can i stretch that mofo out?

overdoing splits? I've heard of excessive stretching ultimately hindering the strength of the muscle to contract, but I don't know if that's the case or not. o__O sounds a bit freaky...how do you walk if you can't pull your leg in?

Still, if I were you I'd stretch a little lighter, don't stop stretching, just stop pushing it. ::shrugs:: never heard of this so I can't say I know what's right...

Its been like this since i was a little kid haha. I remember. I cant turn my feet, for instence, all the way in so that they are facing each other. Its always been like this, even before i started stretching. And i dont have any trouble with walking, i dont walk weird.

But im sure that its possible to stretch it out. Any tips?

One of my students have about the same problem. I told him to try stretching his glutes and hip. When stretching the hip, make sure to flex yout abs and keep your back straight. Then use your glutes to push your body forward in the stretch.

I don't yet know if this will work, but it can't harm.

There’s a funny looking stretch for this where you stand up, bend the one knee a bit, and rotate the bent leg inwards. This will stretch for internal rotation.

Dynamically, you can also use outside crescents I think.

Pigeon and similar would be ok, but are more for external rotation I think. Though it works on some of the same muscles I seem to remember.

Yeah i looked through some of juji's tutorials and i found some good stretches. But i'll try that too haha. Thank you.

Perhaps part of the side effect of being flexible is that while you were predisposed to external hip rotation, that same predisposition makes you less disposed to internal hip rotation.

This is not a stretch generally focused upon, but there would be ways to do it. When walking down into horse stance half of it is moving the heels out, so that can be emphasized.

Edit: Okay, so now that i have the time i searched for Juji's write-up that i was looking for.

Flexibility can be worsened by spending too much training time moving joints through a shortened range of motion. Hockey players, basketball players, wrestlers, and cyclist, for example, spend most of their activity time in a crouched position. This crouching results in shortened hip and knee flexors in all three of these respective sports.

When i was in kindergarten, we where told to sit in a crouched position ALL the time. So, this is the result that i have good adductors. However, my knee and hip flexors are pretty shit, and to my understanding this is what is causing all my problems.

Fuck it im sueing.

Hm, methinks if you've been standing for long enough, that any shortened flexors from sitting long periods from 12 years old probably haven't stuck around.

But isnt there a possibility that it could have stayed? For instence i cant bend forward if im sitting with both of my legs facing outward. I just cant move. Not even 1-2 cm's, literally.
