Improving your tornado kick.

I had made this per request from Joshua, but I thought I would share it with everyone in need of help on their tornado kicks. The tornado kick is simply too important to disregard, and it's a difficult trick for many newer trickers who don't have experience with martial arts, so I feel that this could help many of you in need of improving your tornado in the quest for the 540.

But that's the problem; the tornado kick is actually a very technical move that has an insane number of applications to a countless amount of kicks and twists. Although "doing" the tornado kick is simple, "mastering and applying" the tornado kick is something that I stress every new tricker should consider doing.

You need to master addition and subtraction before you can move on to multiplying and division, you know? Why not master the root of all cheat kicks and use it to improve the learning experience and overall quality of the more advanced techniques?

So on a more serious note, I totally agree with the importance of the tornado kick and drilling the most basic of kicks :good: And this will help with my cheat setup, because it's always been crap and I never got around to really doing anything about it.

Well, let me see your 540. I wouldn't want you to completely go back and scrap your 540 just yet; as said before, the tornado kick creates a good 540, and a good 540 creates a good tornado kick.

I would love to dissect your video and help :) If you're landing the 540 consistently, (even if you feel that the move itself is poor, are you still landing on that kicking leg comfortably and consistently?) then I urge you to still keep with the 540. The tornado and the 540 are painfully similar (with obvious reservations too, haha), but are still different enough sans the hyper.

If you feel comfortable enough, I would love for you to post your 540 (or PM it to me, I respect your privacy) so I can maybe create a small video for you.

be careful not to kick too late. In my old tornadoes i would kick too late, making it impossible to shape it into a 540.

Bring the kicking knee its peak in front of you as soon as you can once you lift off the ground, a splt second after brining your lead leg to its peak. As soon as the kicking leg's knee is at its peak, explode that kick out and around.

This goes along with kicking on target, because i used to overshoot my kick and the line of the kick would not be an arc, but rather a diagonally upwards line, and a diagonally upwards line will never reach the ground... but an arc will.

i hope ppl can understand this post, lolz.

Abso-fucking-lutely. This was my most massive problem when I was learning my 540. I used to kick so late, that my kick would be thrown a good 90 degrees PAST where my target was. In order to remedy this, lift from the cheat takeoff sooner, and spot an object before your kicking target as a visual cue to take off, THEN spot your target.

I can land it semi consistently, it seems to depend on who I'm around it seems, by myself or with my friend paul I can land it every time with a slightly bent leg, with anyone else my leg tucks and i die :dead:

My tornado isn't powerful at all though, it's like the only reason I land the 540 is due to commitment and a slightly bent leg.
