im new to this site. actually i joined in part to learn this trick right. i have been trying to do a front flip but failing. it varies form landing on my back to landing with my feet and ass both on the ground at the same time (that is my most successful.) i was wondering if i could just get a few pointers on this. i have tried both the standing and running front flip i have a little more success with the running but both seem to place me landing on my butt. any tips?

Start with running.
Make sure you aren't throwing yourself down. You want to jump up and throw your arms up in whatever fashion you like. Make sure you extend upward. Then, as you leave the ground, tuck your chest to your knees and bend your knees and bam rotate ahaha. Make sure you're jumping first before you tuck. It's hard to get a feel for yes.

i don't think im tucking correctly. ill try and fix that. another problem im having is i don't know what to do to land. it seem s simple put your feet out. but when i have landed on my back when ever i have really tried to get my feet out in time.
and thank you for the tips

Don't try to get your feet out. Your feet need to come out late. I'd say when you're first learning, keep your feet in for as long as possible and put them out at the last second. Knowing when to untuck can be the difference between landing on your back and landing well. The later you untuck, the more chance you have of NOT landing on your back. Try that out.

gotta get used to a nice fast tuck which gets you round no more and no less than one rotation. that'll come with practice :good: haha... just put POWER into it.
from then on you can just start stalling the thing. watch the horizon/wall infront of you and watch yourself rise upwards before tucking.

ya. when do u throw ur arms up i am having a hard time with some of the more technical stuff. so you tuck at the top. you through your arm up after the hop and then you... land?

just throw your arms up like you were gonna slam a basketball into a hoop. or someone's head into the ground from maximal height. whichever you prefer.

ok and is it a good idea to do this onto a slightly elevated mat. i have a realy hard floor and the only thing that doesn't kill my ass on the landing is the mat from my futon which is about 3 or 4" high.

it took me about 6 years of trying every day
but seriously, you could learn this instantly or it could take a few weeks

from the bottom upwards of course :good:
but you've gotta have the balls to try stuff. like backflips for example. just do it!
if you've done tae kwon do you shouldn't have much trouble learning kicks such as 540, cheat720, cheat900, jacknife etc

You ask too much
Get down a frontflip first, READ through TT (tutorials).
And for christs sake start with running fflip, standing fflip is very hard.
And please post a vid. Its (almost) impossible to tell whats wrong without seeing it.

Your tuck is alright but you see you're just hitting the ground with your feet then tucking.
You need to JUMP up. It's hard to do well when you need to flip forwards, but really focus on jumping upp.
See your arms too? They're in front of you then they swing down. Start with them behind you or neutral or whatever, then when you go to takeoff throw them up or pretend you're diiiving upwards, THEN swing them down and tuck in haaard.
Just go up! Up up and away!

I got a front flip on third try.
But it was crappy. Now I know to block. ^_^
run...dive up and get your body extended so you look like >>this.<< (http://photographerone.com/magazine/images/The%20Dive%20for%20Impact%20of%20Mississippi.jpg) But instead of diving into water your are diving into the sky! haha.
and once you feel yourself start to reach the peak of your jump you want to go from that extended position to a small ball as fast as you can...the faster you make the transition to a tight tuck the faster you rotate.
PS: Watch Ben Browns frontflip because its awesomely stylish. haha
