Jon,..Hi, I'm brand new here and have become interested in gymnastics. I'm hoping to be able to find an adult gymnastics class, but I'm finding it's mostly for younger people. Anyway, I find backflips amazing and have never done this. I'm wondering how high you have to be able to jump to be successful? When I jump straight up and down, I can only get maybe 5 inches approx. off the ground. A website I found says you only need to be able to jump 3 inches although getting higher would make it easier to do. Is he right? Also, can an older adult in good shape be able to do this eventually with the proper training and doing everything safe with a spotter, even if it took months. I'm 50.
Thanks

I'm 50.Thanks
Your userprofile says you're 55. How can you be 50 and 55 at the same time?
But if you're really just 50 I unfortunately have do disappoint you. There's no way to learn it at this age.
I suggest you wait till you're 55 and learn it then, because once you're 55 it should be no problem.

You are not to old! :wicked:
Those who do not agree and do not understand this, those are too young! :wicked:
Realitively the best, that is what you should want to be ... create a unique style because it is not about the skill to perform certain tricks, but about the way you do it, the way you trick ... be unique, the best 50 (or 55 ) year-old trickster ever.
Get a goal, reach the goal ... i wish you your best, my friend!
Love.

Go for it, watch tons of tutorials and try it on plyo with spotter first :)

Yeah, go for it. Just dont demmand the site if u die
Its all about mind over matter. If you throw one (even a halfass backflip) the fear will start to disappear and you will enjoy it. Just find somewhere soft to try one like a trampoline or drag your mattress outside or something. Plus a little bit of height helps gives you more time in the air if it doesn't make you more scared.

Metlife is best for you I think
and you need a lawyer to write a will so get one if you don't already have one.

Thanks guys for the replies. How do you find an experienced spotter? I wouldn't trust just a friend who's never helped anyone before.

Well, i did it without spotter, but i think spotting is pretty easy. Just teach him how he have to do and then concentrate on u. I recomend no potter, because when u try with it you are more concentrated on how the spotter does (cause u dont want do die because he is useless) and then u do a shitty backflip, but how he normally will flip u u land on ur knees, and u think u are doing well. Them u try it alone, and fall on ur neck or just get pissed off.
If u analyze the techniche, look lots of tutorials, try to know what does everything in ur body, practise the setup, the tuck, the first back motion (without the tuck, in ur bed or something) the worst can happen when u try it alone is that u fall on ur knees, and how u are doing it on grass it doesn't hurt. Luck.
