View Full Version : BHS strech
Is there any specific static or dynamic streches that should help doing bhs? Thanks in advance!

You probably want to be paying particular attention to your back and shoulders.
Bridges would probably help a bundle, but any other back and shoulder stretches should be helpful too.
Check out the flexibility section on the main site. :good:

Bridges will only help open your shoulder angle out which helps with bhs, you don't really need flexability in your back so just look at your shoulder angle.

Sometimes people do backbends and then gradually turn those into back handsprings, kind of in the same way those can become backflips.

what? Im not really seeing any link whatsoever between backbends and backflips... plus its ALOT easier to learn backflip then backhandspring unless you're utterly terrified of going over backwards and just have to land on your hands.
Habits from backhandsprings into backflips are alot harder to correct than habits from backflips to bhs (e.g falling backwards into bhs, swinging arms backwards in bhs). Then again, this is only if you learn proper technique on both. For the majority, this just isnt the case.

exactly. You dont need any real flexibility to be able to do a bhs. My back is incredibly inflexible and i can chain at least ten bhs without incident.

wtf?
Bridges dont help directly in concern to a BHS.

on his bhs tut, he specifically goes out of his way to tell people your back has nothing to do with the overall output performance of a bhs.

Bridges don't only affect the back.

The statement was backbend > BHS > backflip. I don't have any idea which is harder (though that might vary). I think you're right about the direction of habits, I can't remember where the idea originated but that's what I heard the first time I mentioned hearing it here.
