And not "Cold" as in "My-balls-are-in-snow-cold" but cold as in not warmed-up.
Has anyone ever had bad side effects from this?

I haven't heard of any but I would start by easy streching then go dynamic?

I dunno never really tryed it, but wouldn't suggest doing it either.

Dynamic is the way to go while warming up, just take it easy at first.

I appreciate the replies, but it's not quite the answer I'm looking for.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't do dynamic stretching before I've done a 5 min. warm-up?

Not really. That's how I do my morning dynamics. Just make sure you don't feel strain. You should probably do joint rotations or something first, but I don't think you need to be "warm".

Of course, if you're doing this before training, a full warm-up - including something to get your heart rate up before dynamic stretches - would be better.

Only the fact of doing dynamic stretches warms u up, but if u plain to do it well u should warm up first, cause u should be trying to get ur maximum stretch at each exercice, so if you have the muscles cold u can fuck yourself up very bad.

It increases the chances of injury. It doesn't guarantee injury, but there's really no benefit to it besides assessing your cold flexibility.

Dynamic stretching can warm up the body, and maybe the limb, but as for the muscle itself, you would want the muscle being stretched to be warm. Active stretching (static or dynamic) activates the opposite muscles. You'd presume they would be warmest.

So doing the opposite dynamic stretch should work better. So if you were wanting to warm up for a front raise, wouldn't doing a back raise actually warm up that muscle stretched in a front raise better?

Umm... maybe?

Depends what you mean by warm up I suppose. Contracting a muscle presumably heats it up more, and gets more blood into it than stretching does. But dynamic stretching does other things that could be considered a "warm-up". Facilitating flexibility and blah blah blah.

I just do joint rotations before my dynamics in the morning, and I don't feel any particular strain in those sessions. Before tricking I do joint rotations, then something to get my heart up (like a jog or whatever), then dynamic stretches, then stuff specific to the session.

As long as you do the stretches easily (no need to rush them really) and listen to your body, doing them cold is probably ok. Though I don't really see why you would, since if you're doing dynamic stretches, you're probably doing some other activity as well, and for that you probably should be warming up.

Do dynamics as a part of your warmup. Just gradually increase your range of motion. I do everything from leg lifts to hip swiveling and knee lifts, but starting from the easiest/simplest motions and moving gradually to the bigger ones.

i was told that you're supposed to stretch dynamiclly as opposed to statically before working out/active sports because static stretching can loosen joints and such increasing your chance of pulling something, etc.

that being said, i wouldnt recommend doing dynamic stretches without getting your blood flowing, or if you do, take it reallly slow at first and lightly increase your ROM with each kick or whatever dynamic stretch you're doing.

thats usually what i try to do before tricking, never had any problems.
