I usually strecth after i shower. I do front splits, and forward kicks. They i do butterfly stretch. How long should it take me to get the splits both ways?

It varies from 1 week to 10 years.

If that's how you stretch, getting the splits will take a long time (too long to bother with), though you will get some benefits. How you're stretching at the moment is understandable, but probably relatively ineffective.

With good a good stretching method, followed well, you could get the splits in around 3 months.

That's a very rough estimate (frozenpeon's post was accurate in a sense). Time taken to achieve the splits varies for a number of reasons - initial level of flexibility and strength, your stretching routine, the actual technique of stretching, and so on.

Read Juji's flexibility section on the main page for an excellent guide to a very effective (and safe) stretching method. Correctly applied, isometric stretching in particular can get you both forms of split in a few months. But it's very important that you do it correctly, so you should read Juji's stuff thoroughly.

Between Juji's stuff and other threads in this forum, you should get all the info you need. If you can't be bothered doing that, feel free to post again in this thread and I'll write up the basics here. It'll help if you let us know what you want flexibility for (tricking, martial arts, just the splits, whatever).

So if i added in some kicks/dynamic stretching will that help? + the splits and butterflys?

Erm, did you read Juji's guide in depth (or my post for that matter)?

I'll post some stuff for you a bit later. In the mean time maybe you could post what your goals are. Do you trick? Do you just want good static-passive flexibility (splits etc)? Or what?

Answering those questions will make it easier for me to give you relevant advice.

Edit: In case you don't know about the main page of TT, here's a link

http://www.trickstutorials.com/index.php?page=content/flexibility

Obviously I'll still post the info if you need don't want to read that stuff.

Yea i trick a little. Not really all moves. I do some tricks. Like b-twist, and double leg, and cartwheel combos.

I typed a bunch of stuff but it was getting really long and I was just typing what Juji has anyway.

I don't really know what you're after.

If you stretch like you are currently, you may never get the splits. Your progress will be slow anyway.

Basically, do dynamic stretches twice per day (one of these sessions will be in the morning, included in your warm-up if you're training that day). Do relaxed stretches everyday, at the end of your cool-down if you're training that day. Avoid straining or other major discomfort. You shouldn't have to recover from these kinds of stretches.

If you want best results for tricking, it would be good to dynamically and statically stretch at least your trunk and hips in every direction (front, back and sides and also rotation for the trunk).

Please tell me your specific goals (what you want to be able to do basically) if you don't want to do all this, or if you have more questions. At the moment I don't know if I'm telling you what you want to know about.

How long do you guys think it would take to simply regain that flexibility, not just start from scratch (I haven't done the splits in a little over two years, when I quit TKD).

Depends how flexible you are right now?If you use "proper" stretching techniques, a few months.
