So i was experimenting with kicks and things, and i tryed out over cheating on ssome kicks to see how it feels, etc. so the problem is i've gotten into a habit of over cheating kicks whenever i try them normally now, and i have to make a concious effort to not over cheat in the set up.

Has anyone else had this problem ?

kinda. I am seeing people really overcheaing. in theory one should only cheat 180 d. but in reality most trickers cheat 360d

overcheating cheat tricks is a bit of a pain, but is relatively easy to fix.

fixing overcheated pop tricks is a bit harder, you have to change your setup etc sometimes, its a bitch.

I remember doing '1080s' when i was cheating the takeoff by about 270 haha, that was fun.

is it just practise which sorts them out ?

well i would always overcheat moves from standing, so to fix them i would do a hook before the move. which would make me cheat the normal amount.

it happened to me couple of time when trying c7s, i tried to figure out what i was doing wrong because it didnt feel right, once i figure it out. i shot myself in the leg to never do it again.

now gdong is trying to get me to overcheat my c9s....i dont want to shoot myself in the leg again....

Just watch your feet simply enough. Make sure your foot is pointing in an acceptable direction before taking off. I think overcheating setups comes when anticipating the spin for the trick before you really jump.
Like Andy said, it's harder to fix with pop tricks than cheat tricks, and I think people get into more of a habit of cheating pops than cheats. One thing that might help is focusing on your target as you begin to setup for as long as you can, and dig your foot before you even think about spinning.

All in all: slow down your setup and maintain good body awareness.

just stop doing them altogether for a few sessions.

when you come back, just drill the takeoff for the move a bunch of times before you throw the move. Then hopefully your short-term repetetive muscle memory (not that it exists) will follow that rather than your old habits.

Thats what worked for me anyway :good:

I'm telling you man, I used to have the same problem. you're turning foot over while you step into and it's causing you to overcheat it. If you do a hook and transition into the cheat move real fast you wont have time to position your foot in a way that cheats the trick.

Over-cheating is alot like getting addicted to drugs:

They both make you feel good because it gives the illusion of something you can't obtain on your own.
They both are addicting/habit-forming, once you start it's hard to stop...and quiting "cold-turkey" is the only way to truely stop.
Once you realize that you're doing it, and that it's not "good", it'll leave you feeling kinda empty...but it's still hard to stop.
Both will ruin you in the long run...

Hmm that's not as bad as I thought it would be. Just don't spin around so early. Make a conscious dig facing whatever direction before you even think about jumping into the flatspin.
