Does it count as conditioning?
Long periods of time is like about standing up maybe 8-10 hours a day?

Why would you do such a thing?
It's basically the amount of conditioning you get by wearing those uhh belt type things the tell you to put around your abs, that miraculously "tones" your "abs" without you having to do any "work" or "exercise."

I suppose, but that will never help your tricking or any other physical activity for that matter. It will just improve your ability to stand for long periods of time.

Seriously.
How practical do you think this is?
You walk up to a bunch of conditioned strong trainers who lift weights and run and stretch and all that.
Them: "Wow man, you're strong! You should compete in a Triathlon, and the world's strongest man competition! How did you get so strong?"
You: "By standing up for 8-10 hours everyday. LOL"
Them: "Kukukuku"
When you stand rather than sit all day you will burn about 100 calories more and work your leg muscles negligibly.
Standing for hours is boring, so utterly boring. Especially when you start thinking of how much you move your toes, shift your weight and whatnot.

So we have reached a conclusion.David Blaine = Idiot [for standing around for hours] So standing around for hours to condition = performer is an idiot x10!

NONE OF YOU KIDS HAVE JOBS DO YOU? WHERE YOU HAVE TO BE STANDING ON YOUR FEET ALL DAY. OR *GASP* DOING PHYSICAL LABOR.
TO THE ORIGINAL POSTER: IF THIS IS THE CASE (YOU HAVE A JOB) THEN DON'T DO CARDIO, YOU GET ENOUGH AT WORK. IF IT IS NOT, AND YOU ARE OBSESSED WITH THE IDEA OF STANDING UP FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME FOR CONDITIONING, THEN AT LEAST GET PAYED FOR DOING IT (IE, GET A PHYSICAL JOB.) / AND IF LIKE ME, YOU HAVE A JOB THAT HAS YOU DOING MORE THAN STANDING (PICKING UP, THROWING HEAVY BOXES OR PALLETS.. CROUCHING AND PICKING UP SMALL THINGS CONSTANTLY ETC) THEN SKIP THE GPP WORK IF YOU STRENGTH TRAIN...

I thought he meant like, standing erect in close to the same position for hours ahah.
Not actually like, standing up but doing stuff relatively useful.

I think that's what he thought, Juji just made it more sensible. You've given him another option now though :ogre:
You made him leave...
I wonder if he was standing while typing this post..

Ya. Well if it's standing for work and such, and you're moving around and doing stuff, I believe that is in fact much better than the sedentary jobs that most of us have to deal with.

I either stand in relatively the same place while working or I am doing exactly what Juji described. Hit or miss I suppose.
In fact I just ripped my work pants the other day due to excess squatting.

Standing raises your metabolism (compared with just sitting around) so its beneficial.
Compared to "real" exercise, though, its nothing. Certainly dont add "stand for 8 hours" to your training schedule.......

Na, just wondering if standing helps, because my part time work needs to stand for long periods of time at the stupid counter. Seems like standing only makes you stand better.

Pretty much.

this article is somewhat relevant. instead of standing or sitting you could squat, if you have the option of course

Oh definitely! Sedentary jobs don't give any stimulance to the body nor does it demand a higher energy intake. Plus you get a sore ass :ouch:.

Yeah I did that for a few days then forgot about it. It was really easy and natural though, so I dunno what the article is talking about, or it's aimed at middle-aged out of shape idiots (e.g. typical T-Nation reader).

same here, It was really easy for me and I have always been able to do it, but teaching capoeira I have seen a lot of people who cannot squat all the way, and I tell them to stretch more, especially their achilles.
I was also just thinking that I have a job that requires lots of standing with random physical tasks. I like my job though, at least for the moment.

very true.... I worked in a hospital as alternative service (instead of military service, which is compulsary here) - my knees and ankles were usually killing me

I would think walking around for that length of time would condition you better, not to mention be healthier since it keeps you from stiffening up, and yeah, definately just get a job if you want to do that. I lost 40lbs when I got a physical job.

i think its time to write a new weight-loss book!
"Stand around like a fucking retard and get thin"
i call shotgun on the publishing rights, and rights to all money earned from the book.
