One big problem i can see is that the purpose of the hop is to convert the forward momentum from the running into upward momentum. After you hop focus on jumping straight up and you will get a lot more height and time in the air to get the full rotation. This will also give you a more stable landing.
So just hop, dig down and jump straight up rather then jumping forward.

Stop running a 50 yard dash before you do it.
Aaaand, like is said above jump up not forward. Do not throw yourself down.

K, on the approach:
Keep the hopstep short and quick.
Never look at the ground. Always look slightly above headlevel.
Keep your arms at your sides.
As you are jumping
Continue looking slightly up.
Jump STRAIGHT UP.
Arms STRAIGHT UP. Pull through all the way with your shoulders too.
Fully extend your whole body.
(I always say this: Pretend you are trying to grab a basketball hoop)
Stall.
Tuck tight.
Pull your legs open and reach for the ground.
Oh, and practice a lot :good:
