I'm 13, and I was wondering on how I should approach strength training. But since I have read that too heavy weight can stunt my growth, I am worried that I will not progress and will stunt my growth. I have already started a routine, although scrambled as in no order. So far no real consistency. I was thinking of doing the Starting Strength workout program but I am worried as to whether it will accomidate me. Any advice?

You probably won't want to be lifting in the lower rep ranges for a while anyway. Start of with moderate weight while you learn proper technique.

If you lift correctly then you will not stunt your growth. Even if you lift like an idiot the effect on your growth will be negligible.

how should my volume be like? Nice new avatar, compleks, gives you a different feeling, which reminds me, I will change mine.

Lay out some specific goals before designing or selecting a program.

My goals are muscle mass, and a physique. My body shape is like wide, but not very, and when I put on my school clothes I look a bit bad to myself, which makes me want to lift and get strong. I have fat, but not exceptional. So my goals are physique and strength. I wanted to get strong as I notice my weaknesses when I play around and jump and throw. Whoo, I just basically told you my whole dilemma there.

Starting Strength is probably an ideal program to be following at your age. Take the fitness and nutritional advice to heart.

Are you still there? My goals are above.

How would I adjust the sets and reps for my age?

I wasn't that keen on it at first, but I think I'll leave it for a while now.

I'm not familiar with the actual program, but if Chic has recommended it then I would say it's a fine start.
Buy the book though.

No adjustment is necessary. I'm assuming you've bought the book though.

as many as you please

Many reps fatigue faster
Few reps fatigue slower
Many sets take a large amount of time and allow for more total repetition
Few sets take a small amount of time and allow for less repetition
Higher weight improves strength and taxes muscles more
Lower weight does so at a lower magnitude
Fatigue hinders ability to lift weight

Remember this

Found it. Thanks again for helping me.
