This setup scares me for some reason. I don't know why, I can do back tucks, flash kicks, all that jazz, but I freak out on J-steps. I can scoot and do gainers, but for some reason I spook when I have to stand up all the way for the J-Step. Any advice on what to drill to get over this shit? I'm at a level where I really should be trying corks, and yet cannot because I can't even do the setup...

Can you do all the prerequisites? Like walking?? ^_^

that's an unusual problem, seeing as you can already gainer.
i assume that the gainer you can already do is a regular straight run-up gainer?
then try to change the run-up, make the line less straight with every attempt. in the end your run-up will (hopefully) be in a J-shape. also try to swing the swinging leg around more with every attempt (up to a quarter circle).
sorry if this sounds confusing. if you have any questions please ask.

I can gainer out of the scooting setup. It is so weird because when I am crouched way down with one hand on the ground I have no fear, but when I stand all the way up it's a total mind f***.

There's really no other solution to fear-releated problems than just getting over them. You always COULD do a bit slanted gainers first to get the feeling of the setup, and then go for a proper one.
