View Full Version : Muscle Activation

I've read the T-nation article on Glute activation, and was wondering if the concept can apply to other muscles I don't see proper growth in.
In my case, I have always had lacking rear deltoids, despite efforts to row/ pull a lot and even do isolation exercises. I've always left the isolation exercises until the end though.
Do you think I could 'fire up' the muscle before exercise to help stimulate growth?
If it does work (at least in theory) I guess I would use rear delt flies and/or face pulls. Any better ideas?
In order to get them growing, you have to also gain some weight.

Well I have (although slowly since hypertrophy isn't my main goal), but all my other muscles seem to grow and get stronger while they don't as much.
I suppose i should just generalize the question: Can the 'muscle activation' technique described in the glute activation article work for any muscle, also can it serve to help strength gain, or is it closer to prefatiguing done in some hypertrophy programs?
I guess I'll add another separate question as well: Is it possible (assuming you have a caloric surplus) to voluntarily exhibit more hypertrophy in certain muscles you choose while having the rest get stronger through neural adaptation mostly? I'm sure it begs the question why bother worrying about it, but let's just say I'm interested.

I reckon you should perhaps just up the volume and intensity of your prioritized muscle group. It'll follow suit eventually, everyone has lagging bodyparts. Unless you suffer actual discomfort through weak rear delts, I don't think you should worry overly much about it.
