I've been thinking about my future lately and i was curious what all of you are considering, or studying to do with the rest of your life?

As far as I know, Compleks, Karnold and I are the only ones perusing/going for a career in the training and conditioning field. Why are you asking in this forum exactly? Its been asked in the Publicus many times.
Being a rockstar and making 50 billion dollars. Per show.

I am starting my first year of university in two weeks. I am going to do zoology and kill endangered animals so that they don't become extinct and die.

I'm still in school (last year, woo hoo!) and after I want to go to uni and study but I'm not 100% sure what yet. I'm leaning towards a new course coming out which is a 'Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science' lolol.

Same kind of situation, just waiting for universities to reply.

I'm heading towards being a psychologist at the moment. Looks like I'll probably stick with it. I toyed with the idea of doing physio or something, but decided to leave physiology/anatomy as an interest rather than a career.

im really not sure at the moment. When i first started college i was interested in becoming a barrister but the effort needed and money/time just seems like i would not be very happy doing it.
So now im leaning towards travelling. Just living in different countrys for like 2 years, get a job and then move on. I intend to get a degree after college so my academic levels should be good enough to get reasonable jobs

While I've not done anything to progress towards it yet, I'd like to do research into cell therapy to repair ageing damage so people can be young forever. Fucking bitch of a task, definately needs smarter people than me on it.

I edited my post a few times, but i originally started it in the training and conditioning forum because it holds the most interest for me as a career.

Mind if i ask a few questions?
Are you certified in anything?
If so, in what?
Do you work for a gym, or do you get your own clients?
How much do you usually make per session?
Are you worried at all that if anyone is injured while under your supervision your reliable? or do you have them sign a waiver?

I'm currently in a Health and Physical Activity program at the University of Pittsburgh. It's not bad I guess, they set you up to take the ACSM personal trainer test and CSCS test. The cool part is due to the curriculum parts of the tests are exempt (the practical part of the ASCM--not that it matters because I hate ACSM and dislike NSCA). I'm going to be set up with an internship with the football team as well as shadow the strength coach who is in charge of olympic sports.
The major is really a set up for grad school but I'm not sure if I will take that road and if I do it will be for teaching. 90% of the people in the program plan on going to PT or physician assistant school.
Basically you can pursue a different major and get these certifications (a USAW one as well if youre interested) later on in your life (for example: the strength coach I will shadow under has a major in criminal justice, however, she has a lot of experience as a powerlifter). This will make your options a little broader.
As far as Athletic Trainers are concerned you need to know a shit load of information and have to be able to deal with dislocations, etc. Not my cup of tea but some people like it.
About the supervision question to compleks--you have to be careful regarding that because you can easily be sued and waivers have been beaten in the past.

I did a sports medicine class in highschool, but it's currently at the bottom of my list because its time consuming and not very financially rewarding for the effort you'd put in (from what i've gathered)

Heh.. Thats encouraging.. Would you know anything about how often and why a waiver wouldn't hold up in court?

No, I don't. Ironically enough I'm learning a lot about legal issues in my Athletic Injury Prevention class. His basis is just to make sure you cover your ass because you can get sued easily. However, this was mostly related to the AT side of things.

You'd need to spend about 7 years at uni, minimum, before you have any kind of freedom in your research. More like 10++
And besides by your second year or so you'd realise that its all a load of BS and how you'd never get anywhere with it.

My favoured plan at the moment is to acquire some kind of farm land and grow shit. It would be cool to have a ghetto country gym in a barn there too.

Not at all.
Are you certified in anything?
Yes.
If so, in what?
Certificate III in Fitness (fitness instructor)
Certificate IV in Fitness (personal trainer)
That's all the certification I have.
Do you work for a gym, or do you get your own clients?
I'm self employed (technically). The gym hires me as a sub contractor I guess, to run certain classes and such.
I rent the gym space in order to take my own privates.
How much do you usually make per session?
$60 for 45minutes. Which sounds good, but in reality I really don't have many clients.
Are you worried at all that if anyone is injured while under your supervision your reliable? or do you have them sign a waiver?
I always have new clients fill in a PAR-Q form, which has a waiver included. But as Anfeyd said, these waivers are not bulletproof and many have not held up in a court of law.
I do worry about it sometimes, especially since I have no insurance. I try to be careful about who I train, and how I train them. Most of the time I don't even think about it.
Australia doesn't have quite the same legal culture as many other countries,, but we're getting there.

I'd spend a decade or two if it meant not giving up hope of extending life for everyone centuries. Working in a lab and doing other people's beakerwork for 'em sounds awesome.
It's not a load of BS, I've already studied it a lot. Fact is, while there are lots of quacks regarding such things, a lot of people are researching it quite conservatively and taking straightforward approaches. Knowing just how hard something is is the first step to going for it. I don't see the point on giving up on something, even if all current was BS (and I don't get that impression) then you can cut through the swathe and start your own non-BS.
Growing a farm also sounds cool, have you thought of taking botany along with agriculture?

I'm not studying to do anything right now. I'm a Correctional Officer. Have thrown ideas around from staying in law enforcement, to teaching martial arts, to working with computers. Meh, too lazy to bother right now.

Ashtar - I guess you'll have to see how you like it, I wouldn't tell you not to try it. There's plenty of points along the way to GTFO if you decide that actually its a crap waste of your life. A lot of people start a science degree (especially biological shit) thinking they're going to get to be some heroic rock-star scientist curing this and that and making themselves immortal and able to regrow lost limbs. After a couple of years the only people who want to carry on are those who get a kick out of the mind-numbingly tedious lab work and the desk-bound rigours of reading/writing endlessly. Very few seem to still have a goal in mind, or even give a shit about where their research leads. As with many other things, you have to enjoy the process itself, not just the results.
You could always set up your own lab somewhere. If I had the money, I would. Anything available to a university or research institute is available to the general public. Or you could just steal shit from uni.

I have great admiration for people who perform on stage, especially musicians, so I'd want this as a career. I actually picture me playing music on stage much better than sitting endless years in university busting my brain with shitloads of crap only to get a ball busting, boring job like everybody else. Plus it's excellent to have people who admire you for being a kick ass singer and a fine piece of ass (me).

At the moment, it looks like I'm going to community college to get my associates in nursing (I graduate high school in June). After I get my associates, I plan take night classes for my bachelors and, later on, my masters while I work a job somewhere to pay tuition.
I've also been considering becoming a neurologist and practicing chiropractics, but I'm not sure if I'll be pursuing that. I haven't a clue how I'd make it work the way my finances are planned right now.

Holy crap you're going to be Nurse-kun! I sub to a male nurse magazine, tell me if you want a link.
Don't do chiropractics! Do physiotherapy or something, chiropractics is infested with vitalistic propoganda and the assumption that subluxations must exist because cracking backs is a guaranteed cure-all.
how do you think she's paying for college?Heck, I'm at the point where I think I might do that if it meant I could just focus on school and not worry about working to save up any more.
