So, I've cracked a rib or several recently in Judo. I know to take it easy and avoid impacts, but what are some things I might not think of that would exacerbate the problem?

That sucks. I cant really answer your question as I'd think almost any movement would hurt to some extend. Heal up quick :good:

Ouchies! No sudden twists of the torso I reckon, just play it smooth for awhile. Naturally you shall stay away from training until you're healed up.

Bad luck mate.
Crack ribs are a pain in the ass. I've never had mine cracked, but alot of people I train with have and they can be put out for quite some time.
Rest up and take it easy. Hope you have a good recovery.

It's not just direct impacts, basically any major movement, especially involving the core, could aggravate it. This is probably why they invented the leg extension.

They did not invent the leg extension so that people with cracked ribs could keep on training you absolute idiot. Training is out of the question until the person with messed up ribs is healed up.

Haha.
Question for the mods: Is is possible to limit someone to a certain number of posts per day?
(Obviously in reference to Ashtar)

Damn...It really sucks when people who are serious on their training get messed up like that. They don't deserve it.
I've personally had a damn injury, and I can relate.
I hope you get better soon mate.

Thanks all.
It only hurts if I cough or sneeze hard, or if I fall on it, or if someone jams an elbow into it, or if I have someone on top of me, or if I'm trying to roll against resistance. Basically everything in Judo.
I get to do entries into throws and that's about it for a few weeks. Oh well, at least I'm already missing for a show.
Also, Ashtar, that was very nearly humorous, though I'm not sure if you meant it to be.

Obviously that's not why they invented the leg extension, it was a way of saying 'this is something you could do that shouldn't aggravate your injury.
People can continue training while injured as long as it doesn't aggravate the injury. This is why you can still do chest flies if you sprain your ankle. You should hold back as to not tax your system so much that it slows the healing process, but even with no other stresses a body can only heal an injury so quickly.
