Just a little update on my whole knee ordeal. I doubt too many know or care, but basically I'm excited and am thinking about it, so I'll write a brief thing about it.
I went to the doctor Monday (February 11, 2008) for my three month checkup. I had surgery to repair my torn ACL among other things on November 15, 2007. All the stability tests went as expected, and because I was so hardcore about my training and rehab/physical therapy, my quads and hamstrings are actually bigger now than they were prior to my surgery. Normally, atrophy is pretty bad in most people, and so the combination of weakness (that doesn't register with your brain since you haven't been in the activities that you'd need them to be really strong for in so long) and the new/weak ligament generally make the recovery take anywhere from 6 months to one year. Well, after about 4-5 months the ligament has basically done it's thing and is about as strong as it's gonna get, so the rest of the battle for people is getting up to game speed and strength as well as a nice little fear barrier that only builds as the duration of time you've been out increases.
Anyhow, my doctor prescribed sports knee braces for both legs (both have been surgically repaired for the same injury type) which I'll be fitted for on Monday (February 18, 2008). I'm allowed to start slowly working back into things now-- I started doing front walkovers, cartwheels, and backhandspring step-outs this week and am doing basic stunting (eg. chairs and extensions) again. The doctor says I should be set to go and can start going pretty hard again mid March/ beginning of April time frame.
So, if you cared enough to bother reading all this, know that I'm hella hyped and so excited about getting back into the game again.
Peace
