View Full Version : Punches in tricking
So I was thought it would be interesting to see trickers doing more punches amidst all the kicking and flipping. It is martial arts tricks after all, so why should that restrict it to just kicks? I don’t mean the xma forms karate punches or whatever, but crazy videogame style flying through the air killing-demons type punches.
Example.
Tony Jaa’s spinning punch thing.

Or how about a jumping 720 backfist?
I dunno I’m sure you crazy kids can come up with some sweet moves. I’ll try some next time I train.

It's fine as it is.
Forms look better with punches, but tricking itself wouldn't.
... unless you'd do a really stalled, laid out cork with a punch overhead in mid-air.

It doesnt take much to punch but kicking does and people know that and thats why it looks better kicking.
Damn I love tricking.
Hey can someone tell me where I can get info on the tricking list?
Shooo ryuuuuuu kennnnn!!

Doesn't Prodigy do a stalled cartwheel fulltwist with a punch?
Anyone got a link to a video he does that in?

to me punches only looks good after a kick or a kicking combo. I have never thought doing a doublecork and then do a shitload of hand techniques looks good together.

punching's easy, making a punch look good is not that easy.

I really hate forms and hands because they look so silly sometimes. But what I do like is when someone can take a fast moving skill like a powerful 540 kick and stop it dead by ending it in a punch. That shit looks sharp.

backyard trickers have probably never really thought that some hand techniques can be harder to do correct and fast than some tricks actually. Same goes for a simpel front- and sidekick theres much more to it than just "throwing your leg out"

Punches look good in forms and maybe the classic PUNCH after combo, but other than that they look dumb I'm sorry haha. It'd be like random arm flailing. I mean you can't even flail your legs around that much if you're not good at kicks, they won't get more than a few feet off the ground. Your arms/shoulders are built with a full range of motion that you can utilize, even sans flexibility. It doesn't take much skill at all.
Jumping and spinning and punching is no different than those people who jump and do those like 540 degree spins in the air and are like "wow I'm awesome". haha

idk if this has been said before, but punching give a form a lot more substance and can provide a lead in to other tricks. If youve ever had to write your own form it feels really awkward with nothing but kicks

Amazing tricks, but even Anis cant avoid looking like a fairy cheerleader when he tries to incorporate punches

it's not about, skill, it's about looking cool.
Im totally for punches in tricking. It's a new creative thing to do. Nothing to really take seriously, but more of a stylistic thing is what I can see that becoming. But nothing gay.

An idea I had once but never pursued: Use spinning backfist to gain lateral momentum.

I've seen punches in two of juji's films sofar, that would be in Thousand, after a swipe to kick combo, and in jryst after a flashkick , atleast i think. but still there are punches there, and they fit in just right tbh

I would rather do forms than perform punch tricks.
alternately if your going to perform a punch trick let it be the mario tornado in Super smash bros. it is the shiat :P

If only someone create trick with punches.
If only AjStyles would one day make sense. If only...

its sharp to end tricks in a punch. there are also some cool btwist variation punches. jet li does one where he btwists away from a grab and reverse punches the guy in his neck. quite awesome.
spiral knuckle ->cartwheel full is cool too.
and spinning backfist to gain lateral momentum sounds like an interesting concept. almost like an alternative to a spinning hook.
and a 720 backfist would look rediculously gay.
**edit* jayel does a really nice backside 720..but when he jumps up, he uppercuts. sort of like jin kazama from tekken..freakin awesome.

punching is usually seen within martial arts forms or w/e..and tricking is more..free-style i suppose, it doesn't conform to a form:P The most you could do in tricking is to add a little pizzazz to your tricks. Which reminds me, I saw a book in my math classroom that was titled "algebra with pizzazz"..I've always wondered how they could add pizzazz to algebra, maybe they threw in some punches at the end of their equations, lol.
