View Full Version : gas attack

I try to eat pretty healthy, but it seems that so many things I eat just make me have to fart all the time. Foods that supposedly cause gas are things like broccoli, whole grain products, beans, certain nuts, peanut butter. I've also heard that milk can have the same effect. I'm not sure about anyone else, but these are pretty staple in my diet. I hate having to clench my ass while attempting jumping jacks or squats in karate warm up, or while being thrown in aikido, and just having to smell myself constantly when I workout alone and can rip freely. It's also a problem during classes (school) when I have to maintain for usually an hour or more. It's not like a medical problem by any means, just a nuisance. Can anyone suggest other healthy foods for pre-workout meals, or those that possibly counteract gas? Farting is all good fun, but not when you're trying to do something serious...then it's just hilarious...but still annoying.

"Enjoy the healthy foods you love with Beano. Beano helps prevent gas from beans, vegetables, whole grains, and more."
Looks like a problem solved. I've also heard of it before, not sure why I never thought of giving it a try. Thanks for the reminder.

Or you could try cutting down on the fiber. That is often a prime reason for excess gas.

Yes. I hoped I wasn't alone. Unfortunately karate is at night, which is when I have built up the most throughout the day. I too can not give up my fiber, it's too damn delicious and nutritious. I'm going to give that Beano a try and wish for the best, but only when I don't want to fart. I don't want to take too much joy out of my life.

How long have you been eating 'healthy'?
I find that any sudden change in diet causes gas, but after a while it tends to subside (for me atleast).

I have also heard that, but I have been eating very well at least since the beginning of summer 2007. Before that, even when I was eating campus food I always tried to pick the best options.

Well, have you always had gas? If it's a recent problem, then you can probably attribute it to something that has changed in your diet.

Trying to think back, I might have always had a bit of gas, but a healthier diet has just added more to it. I'm going to give that Beano a try and hope that works. I like my diet and would like to keep it unchanged. If for some reason it doesn't work I will probably end up cutting out some fiber and other foods thought to be gas producing.

Use Omega-Zyme (http://www.healthfoodemporium.com/prod_page.php?id=21) I've been using it to help with foods that don't normally fit into my diet (fast food, pizza hut stuffed crust...mmmmm) and it works great.
I eat lots of fiber and I fart all the time
I am highly entertained by both my own sounds and my own smell

Yes, since the nutrient breakdown starts in the mouth (grinding by teeth, preparation by saliva). Not chewing food properly is bound to give a random amount of increased flatulence, depending on the foodtype of course.
