I'm just curious what you guys are using, and I'm sure as things pop up questions like why will be asked...so it'll be useful all around I hope.

protein powder (of course) after workouts and with breakfast
creatine before workouts and in my breakfast shake
glutamine after workouts and in my breakfast shake
Juji's homebrew powerdrive + caffeine, ephedrine, and aspirin before hard tricking sessions (or Endrorush if I'm out of one or more of those)

I've fucked with creatine from time to time but pretty much the only thing I've been using is Whey. It's hard to say what really helps and doesn't for me. The majority of stuff I've ever tried doesn't really seem to affect me much, so fuck 'em.

Muscle building supplements, none besides some protein in a bar or shake after a workout. Only other things I take are gluccosamine and a multivitamin (just in case I miss something in my diet).

How was the Arnold?

Yuri

How was the Arnold?

amazing, it was the best day I had all year. I ate nothing but protein shakes and energy drinks and I was actually around people who took training as seriously as I do.
I have way more supplements than I know what to do with so I think I will try to muss up 10 or so pounds in the spring now that I am obligated.

the arnold might be the only thing I like about living in ohio. I was glad I could find a ride.

and of course after oogling fit attractive females in racy oufits all day my standards are now even higher which lowers my chances of getting laid even more because any girl I would have a chance with would be way below my standards.

I take a six probiotic capsules a day when my stomach is empty, and six capsules of fish oil a day (two with each meal).

I was also on a protease and a counter protease for a while, too.

To be quite honest I just find it too hard to know if supplements are working or not. There's so many factors that go into performance and how you feel that basing it on supplements alone is just ridiculous. That's why I've only been taking whey, because it's a source of protein which is in turn an essential part of my diet for gaining mass. So much of everything else just seems to be an aid for how well you perform activities and I for one could never tell if that shit really made much of any difference.

It's all a placebo. You think its helping you make gains, and your own positive thoughts create those gains.

Well:

If whey didn't "work", then neither would any meat or egg. You'd just constantly get smaller. (Whey is a lot cheaper than meat and eggs too.)

If carbohydrates didn't spike your insulin and refill your glycogen, then the sudden muscle pump post-workout after the shake must be imaginary, and the feel of suddenly waking up a bit more must be a figment of my imagination.

If creatine didn't up the natural creatine storage in your body and make your "10 seconds of powAr" turn into "15 seconds of powAr", then why do studies show that your creatine storage actually does increase noticeably while supplementing? And why do I generally manage to do more reps while using creatine?

Same goes for everything else. Fixing a zinc and magnesium deficiency is OK, taking extra leucine is favourable for muscle restitution (badass amino acid)...

Multivitamines are just fun, and so is arginine. Though I actually gained weight faster than ever previously gained after supplementing with arginine. I went from 76kg to 86 kg in three months (waterweight included, and after having a bad flu and lung infection. Before I got sick, I weighed around 80kg).

Using supplements that have been scientifically proven to work (creatine is the best example) is a sure-fire way to get that extra "edge". Caffeine is another good supplement, pure EAA is the best protein supplement out there etc.

I don't even want to recap on how much money I spent on useless expensive supplements. Not just useless stuff (glutamine) but expensive brands as well that did not provide anything extra. Ultimately though, supplements are just that, supplements.

My best purchase: Rage.

Everyone says they use tons of fish oil...how much is too much? My grandma used to say it was important to cycle that stuff because it was hard on something (I forget what).

Casper, you notice any difference with Q10? It's pretty cheap at CostCo is why I ask, was thinking about giving it a try.
