View Full Version : about height in flaskick....
How good backflip landing i must have to do a flashkick and not land on my face? and does doing a flashkick eliminates much of your backflipping height? i'm just curios couse i want to try one but my backflip sometimes is no that brilliant at all...

use the force and feel it out.....
I'd say you have a pretty solid level landing in a backflip if you wanna have a good flashkick. All I can say is just practice, practice, practice. You won't know till you try to be honest. Just make sure you know as much as you can about it if your not sure you'll land it.

well I'll try flashkick tomorrow, somethings that I saw is jump up like a normal backflip but looking back (to the sky), so keep ur head back and at the same moment that you tuck in backflip you kick your leg, land.
if you have a normal backflip you can do it, dont need a brilliant one. that's what i think.
I will try it my first time tomorrow (cuz I want to hit gainerflashs later)
then I can tell properly.
ok i think i will try it tomorrow too. i will do it from roundoff because my standing tuck is terrible. My ro tuck has tendency to change all the time - sometimes i land crouched, sometimes i almost overrotate it.... i will use a little hill for just to be sure i dont land on face.
ok, do you think this would be enough?

Its pretty different from the backflip. Backflip you dont arch. Flashkick you jump, arch, and look at the sky, then kick the sky as hard as you can. If you arch too much and look backwards your kick will look like its coming out late. Just go out and try it :D. It feels almost as good as a 540.

i have the same problem just think to do a good backflip and kick in the end
I think if you can Backflip you can flash kick. The two are pretty much identical, for me anyway. Just stall a little longer and drive that kicking leg through, and you have a flash kick.
ok, sorry i wont be doing flashkick today :dead: :agony:

The people I've seen with the best standing flash kicks, have learned those kinda standing back whippy layout things first. Some people focus more on a huge jump though. Juji if I remember rightly has a pretty good balance between a jump and a whip, Rook has my favourite standing flash kick and looks as if he's going for a standing whip back until he unleashes his kick.

Hmmm it's awkward how you don't land that haha.
Anyways, let's start off by saying that height in a flash kick is quite different than height in a back flip. In a back flip you jump into the air, spin around, and land. In a flash kick, if done well, you rotate around your head. Your head is basically a pivoting point for the rest of your body.
This is because you arch. When you arch your head is all stretched back, so your body naturally regains alignment by having the hips and basically the rest of your body flow around the direction of your head. So in a Flash Kick, the height of the trick is determined by the height of your head at the peak of arch and jump.
In a back flip, the height is determined by, well, how fast you jump up and how fully you extend the jump, as well as the speed of your tuck blah blah.
So you should still try to extend up, while arching back. How do you arch back? Well if looking at the ground is uncomfortable, just look at something behind you. That's what I do. Tell yourself to try to extend upwards in a straight line (almost vertically straight, sliiightly backwards usually). However as you do this, look backwards, zing!
It's very important to not try to jump into the arch, that is to say, force your body into an arch with the jump. And not to try to jump backwards, and not to try to lean backwards, as in pull your upper body down to try to flip. The jump and the arch are two totally different motions friends, although they happen almost at the same time. As you reach full extension of the jump, you should be trying to look back behind you to create that nice lovable arch.
Remember, don't whip yourself backwards. Instead of jumping into a curve, curve as you jump. Think of it as like...just doing a straight fast vertical leap, but as you do it, you look behind you. You don't jump behind you, you don't try to jump in some sort of arch, you simply arch, as you jump backwards.
Of course, when you do arch, you want to get into a habit of still pushing your upper body up as much as you can. Extend your entire body upwards into the sky during your jump extension as your arch.
It's something you really have to feel, you have to feel your body extending upwards. Think of trying to push the top of your head into an invisible ceiling way above you as you jump, even though you're going to arch.
Have I reiterated the same point over and over enough? Let's hope so, haha.
For further boring reading, I have an actual tutorial on this move written here.
